OK, computer crashed, had to buy a new one.
Reinstalling is BAD ENOUGH, without finding out
that a program I've been using WON'T reinstall,
because this is 2nd computer crash, and the program
ONLY ALLOWS 2 reinstalls. Yeah, really.

So I need to find a replacement, because I'm NOT
going to pay $50 AGAIN just because I had to
replace a computer (expensive enough).

So WHAT else is that that can replace ProScan,
for multiple scanner models??

How about sending an email to bob@proscan.org, who handles situations like this for his customers on a regular basis, rather than publicly bashing an entirely reasonable restriction on installing paid software on an unlimited number of computers?

Well, because it SAYS on their site that you only get 2 shots at it. DON'T remember that being there when I bought the program. NO other software I use is THAT restrictive. Hell, I have programs 20 years old, that have been thru 6 or more computers, maybe 20 reinstalls, and are STILL supported by their makers. Looks like I'll go back to ScanControl, which does more, AND easier, and isn't limited. Had it regged a while back, but got away from it. Cost is low enough that I WON'T even ask for the upgrade price.

Scan control does more? I don't think so and it has not been supported in years. And I have no idea where you got you could only reinstall Proscan 2 times but that is incorrect.

FROM the Proscan website..

Each license entitles you to activate this product on 2 separate computers.
ProScan can be deactivated on one computer and activated on another computer or can be activated again on same computer if OS reinstalled / hard drive reformatted.
Every license enables us to improve our software and continue to develop ProScan.

They ARE blatant about charging again, so they can support themselves.

Hell, JUST because I have scanners DOESN'T mean I can afford to waste money over and over on the SAME program just because my computer crashed. I WISH I could afford (AND had room) to keep on system JUST for programming scanners, and another for everything else, but THAT isn't happening.

I'm NOT saying their software is bad, but *I* can't afford it, not under their terms and conditions.

My newest scanner is a BCD396T. NOT an XT, or anything newer. And next year, if I want to keep listening, I WILL have to buy a new P2 capable scanner, which WON'T be easy for me.

Email Bob and he will take care of this. He is very helpful in situations like yours. I personally needed more than 2 licenses and he combined my license so now I have 4 ( Yes I paid for 4) But he will take care of your situation for no charge and you will be ok.

So you email Bob at Proscan, he deactivates your old computers and you install and activate it on your new computer.

So just to be clear, you're bashing the author of ProScan without having even bothered to see if he would help you. That's a class act on your part.

And your statement about software restrictions is demonstrably false. Pretty much all paid software has restrictions on how many times you can install it concurrently. ProScan is no different in that regard. Try installing a copy of Windows on 6 computers and see what happens...

ProScan has always had the 2 installations per license limit. But it also allows you to deactivate the install on one machine so that you can install on an additional computer--you just can't have it active on more than 2 machines simultaneously. If you can't deactivate the install on an old machine because it crashed, Bob will be happy to help you for free, if you contact him politely. You're not the first customer to have had a computer crash.

But if you want to pointlessly pay more money for software that does less, go for it.

I have considered buying ProScan. But, I am watching to see what happens here.

No need to watch what happens here, Bob has helped many, many folks in a similar situation. Those folks simply contacted Bob and explained their situation.

They didn't bash him in a public forum for no reason what so ever.

I have had crashes and Bob has fixed the key 2 times for me as I run 2 computers.
You can SEARCH here and find several times where others have had the same problem and it was fixed.
I think so much of Bob I bought a second License just so I can run 4 computers.
We are telling you we have had the same problem and it was fixed and our software is SUPPORTED with updates and upgrades for free. So you should follow the directions we give you and get your problem fixed and say you are sorry for jumping to conclusions.

Can't say enough good here about Bob's customer service and ProScan. Contact Bob and give him the chance to hear you out before making assumptions. He's really a good understanding guy.

+6 on Bob being responsive/helpful about PC crashing/license reactivation issues when he is contacted by e-mail. His ProScan software & support of the same is well regarded on this forum.
