Hello,
Im fairly new to Terre Haute, Vigo/Vermillion counties and I’ve got an interest in radio communications and amateur radio and recently bought an older scanner but P25 phase 1 capable to monitor the state TRS. I see on RR that the Terre Haute PD Dispatch channel is fully unencrypted but TAC and a few other channels I believe are fully encrypted. Can anyone confirm if any voice traffic has transmitted over THP dispatch talkgroup or do they continue to dispatch on TAC channels? I’ve recently ordered this scanner and asking this to save time on programming the channel in it. Thanks much for the help, God Bless!

Here is the online scanner feed. Compare your scanner audio, to the audio on the online feed; remembering the online feed may be delayed by 30 seconds (or longer) due to the audio being received locally, traversing the interweb servers, then making it's way back to your phone or computer.

Phase 1 might only work for another year, might want to get a Phase 2 scanner!

People have been saying that for the past 10 years...I agree, at some point, it will happen though. Sooner or later one of us will be correct.

I’ve been listening in but can’t tell what Talkgroups is what.

I’ve got a phase 2 scanner I just ordered a XTS5000 programmed by a buddy of mine for non affiliat scan for Vermillion and Vigo counties. Ive not heard anything about them going to Phase 2, when do they plan on the switch?

I was here a few years ago contracted through Indianas IT Division and did hear small talk of possible phase 2 switch but last I knew that plan didn’t fall through but I could be wrong.

Until all the XTS radios are gone, the switch is on hold. There are still a lot of XTS radios in the mix. They are trying to push all the old stuff off, but its going to take a minute. Most of the Metro Indianapolis area has upgraded to APX series, with some other phase II capable subscriber units in the wild. The repeaters and firmware is all ready.

Since the entire XTS line is eol and discontinued, they really want them gone, hard to keep them in tip top shape without replacement parts or radios. Not to mention, XTS radios can't integrate FirstNet LTE technology in the radios. With FirstNet fully integrated into the SAFE-T cores, it just make sense to have one device that can multi-task. Progress, right?

Oh so SAFE-T is planned to upgrade to FirstNet? Last I knew that unmonitorable.

SAFE-T has been integrated with FirstNet for at least 4 years now. It's built into the system cores. You can't monitor the LTE part, but you can hear the LMR part. I have monitored users with APX NXT radios in Florida, as well as up in Chicago talking to others on the SAFE-T using the LTE capabilities just like they were standing in another room. Have also heard Techs for our local system that were on vacation in SC talking to techs locally about something they couldn't work out. The guy in SC was using an APX N series to talk to the local guy on one of our TG with an APX 6000.
