I am rather new to all this, but a few years back I remember getting Batesville PD in on 155.940 by doing some simple inversion stuff with my RTL usb. It seems like they may use NXDN48e now, or an encrypted NXDN48 protocol? I can't seem to wrap my head around it. I really wanted to try to get the city PD in for my mother who pretty much just sits around and listens to the scanner, but she can only pick up Ind. Co. dispatch now.

I'm just curious if anyone knows what kind of encryption they are using. I've tried a few things and i'm pretty stuck and exhausted all of my ideas. I can actually get the call signs and numbers of the calls when they come in but I either get complete static or a garbled mess. Usually only static. I know there is a conversation and I can see who is having the convo.. but no dice on the audio. I honestly don't care to know any of the information behind the calls, I just want my mom to be able to hear 'em, haha.
I have a pretty simple USB dongle and have been using SDR# and DSP+. If anyone could point me in the right direction here I would really appreciate it.

Any idea what kid of encryption is typical on these NXDN48 systems? The station isn't trunked and my best guess is it is using some kenwood radio stuff. Maybe the 15bit scramble? Does anyone have any audio examples of what different types of encryption sound like or does it typically all sound the same? Is there some sort of data I could be looking at in a DSD framework that could give me some clues?

I’m not following what you’re looking for here.

Decoding/de-encrypting such communications is a violation of law. Unfortunately, they cannot be monitored (and understood). If this isn’t what you’re talking about then I’m not following.

I just want to find out if its possible to tell what kind of encryption a system is using without actually decrypting it.
