Well here is my setup for my 2004 WRX STi. I used the end of my astray to drill the mount for the remote head and knocked out the back of the ashtray and ran the wires through the radio area to where my I pod, remote head, coax, and speaker wire sit. Works fairly well, this is my summer only vehicle, I plan on purchasing another remote head cable so I can move it to my winter Subaru.

The antenna

What bands does will that antenna receive? Where can I buy that antenna and mount and do you know the part numbers?

Thanks.

Really nice use of minimal space. The clean look of the antenna and 396 Speaker standoff keep clutter down as well. What brand/item numbers are the speaker, bracket, and antenna?

Great pix as well.

Nice! I never contemplated putting my RH96 down there.. my cig lighter adapter plug-in is in the way ('07 WRX). On the 07s, the spot where your cupholders are is a blank piece between the vents and the top of the radio, so I mounted my RH96 there.

The control below his radio is for the triple-gauge pod above the central vents.. they are recordable gauges. :D

Neat looking floor mats - I presume they are something you found a roll of and cut to custom fit?

And the cones sticker on the back is subtle and cool too :)

Info on the antenna part #39528 or ABSCANC- G-PUBLIC SAFETY SCANNER ANTENNA, web site for antenna is www.lairdtech.com scanbc780 is correct on all the info.

The bracket came with the remote head, the speaker is one from radioshack, I just used a self taping screw to mount it to the side of the bracket.

Thank you all for the comments, I took some time on thinking it out.

Pros of it yes very compact and works well, I am planing on installing a power outlet in the glove box
so I can also power the scanner from inside.

Cons the only way I can turn it off is by always opening the glove box, speaker is not loud enough (loud exhaust doesent help;-)

Jay911- yea they are custom mats-STi's didnt come with mats in 04-05, yea the cones are a local car club joke.

Thank you all again for the comments!!!

Greg, what mods did you make under the hood? Nice radio set up. I've been looking at the spot where my ashtray is in my 08 Outback and it's got me thinking I can stuff something in it...

I think it looks great. I do have two comments (other than Drill, Baby, Drill!):
The speaker looks super vulnerable to accidental dislodging by passengers.
And if the car gets broken into, your 396 is gone. Consider a hiding spot for it.

As far as it getting stolen, the glove box does lock otherwise if they get into my car they can get everywhere. In the STi there aren't much for comfort or convenience, in 04-05 you didnt even get a stereo..it was considered weight. I have thought about moving the speaker but as with the problem with the 396 its hard to hear to begin with.

Fin is fiber glass and no 800mhz is a strong penetrating signal IMO (anyone can correct me if im wrong) if I was listening to 144's i would consider a different location and a bigger antenna.

For the gauges if you are tuning your car or having a problem its nice to look back at what psi your having EGT problems or vice versa, you can play it back with you log info from the computer.

As far as mods go, Turbo back exhaust 3inch, un-equal length headers, PE850injectors, Warbrol 255 fuel pump, Intake, turbo inlet hose, cobb lowering springs, HOV boost control solenoid, Defi gauges,...and on the 24 pro tune at 4pm...were guessing 330 to 350hp to the wheels. :)

And a Valentine 1 radar detector.
