They need the encryption so the flames can't flee the scene if they are listening in:LOL:
And also "lookey loos"? If their is a structure fire in a neighborhood people are gonna get out and watch it causing a crowd to form easily any how. People have phones. All it takes is for them to post it on social media, or go live on a social media platform which will then cause " lookey loos" from other areas to arrive at the scene anyways. Majority of "lookey loos" usually are people without scanners lol

It's almost like they've never heard of the 8CALL/8TAC or 7CALL/7TAC frequencies. And doesn't DE have their own statewide T/A channels in the 861.xxxx range?

I don't think there is a real issue with the general public. It's the "buffs" who show up in turnout coats and 3 radios blaring that worries most departments. Too bad a few over the top whackers, frustrated people who could never make the cut, or those with a self inflated feeling of importance ruin it for all.

Interesting comment - " We understand there were some issues up and down the state with information getting out to the public during incidents and that is why agencies are going to encryption.

He makes it sound as if encryption is necessary for PR. That is so backwards.

Does anyone find it more than just a tad bit peculiar that in advocating for encryption that the issue Lester Guyer is referring to somehow “occurred unexpectedly“ to them? The problem of course is that he‘s already explained in questionable detail why he feels the need to implement the big E, which means that it had to have already been a KNOWN issue!

First, if they are having difficulty with communicating with the town electric department then the town electric department should either join the state system or the fire department should have the capability to communicate on the town electric department's system.

Second, are they looking at getting encryption keys for their radios to communicate with Milford PD? That would make sense since Milford PD went to encryption but then they could keep one of the Milford PD tgid's open for interoperability. I'm also wondering if the fire company is looking to encrypt their company channel as well.

In the end, I'm not worried about FD/EMS going toward full-time encryption statewide yet as I'm sure there are some departments that don't have the funding to take on such a task with their radios.

If there is a problem with looky loos then they probably need a law like Texas has and actually enforce it.

Sec. 545.407. FOLLOWING OR OBSTRUCTING FIRE APPARATUS OR AMBULANCE.
(a) An operator, unless on official business, may not follow closer than 500 feet a fire apparatus responding to a fire alarm
or drive into or park the vehicle in the block where the fire apparatus has stopped to answer a fire alarm.

As I read it, it sounds like they are mainly looking to add the capability to listen to their local law enforcement, who is encrypted, This sounds like an essential capability. As a fire chief myself, I have always said that if our jurisdiction's law enforcement were to encrypt their day-to-day patrol talkgroup we would need our radios to have encryption added as well. For situational awareness, both our fire and PD members monitor each other on a daily basis. Remember that just because the subscriber equipment has encryption, doesn't mean it's active on every channel or talkgroup. This fire company's request seems completely legitimate.

Also, DE's statewide push for encryption was "strongly motivated" by the Secret Service's need to have all surrounding emergency service agencies' transmissions to be encrypted.

Is the police Department going to give a Non Department encryption key to decode the transmission ?, As far as i know you use encryption to keep communications Private and the police will probably want to keep their stuff Private! So they may end up just wasting Money, After all Biden' s Motorcade have been operating in the clear on statewide inter-op 1, With no issues Between Deldot, DSP, River and Bay authority Etc.
