I’ve always wondered what these interoperability talkgroups are in my local system? Can somebody please explain what they are for and what type of traffic is transmitted on them.1686105050557.png

They are talkgroups reserved for the Randolph Metro cities to use for big events and joint operations as needed. You may go years without hearing any activity on some of them.

Also what are citywide talkgroups? What the purpose of those?

Citywide are used for different things in different locations. Generally for multiple agencies within a municipality to talk, coordinate, operate, etc. You may hear a couple of public works guys talking to the fire department, parade coordination, cops chit chatting, etc…

For the LCRA Randolph area, Schertz and Cibolo are big users of their respective Citywide 1 channels for major accident calls. They put PD, FD, and EMS on the same channel for easier coordination. Universal City uses Citywide for events, as rattler said. RM Ops 1 is the only one I have seen used for random coordination. Usually, Live Oak and UC, but this was two years ago. Most agencies in the Randolph Metro area are big on patching and have each other's channels programmed in so they can switch over and ask for what they need.

Also on a unrelated note what do amplifiers do?
