Is P25 Phase I here to stay or will it be replaced entirely by Phase II?

I would like to add the BlueTail Technologies P25RX to that list. It operates stand-alone and is shown to work in multi-site LSM systems.
Can you point us all to where to read about this and get started using it?

I apologize if I derailed the thread by requesting to be included in the stand-alone/LSM list of P25 receivers.

In an attempt to get the thread back on track, I will share my limited-area experience with P25. I have been monitoring the P25 systems in the Tri-cities, Wa area for around 2.5 years. The local systems span multiple counties/cities/departments. I've only been monitoring the TDMA grants on the control channels for the last several months. I can say that all three systems I can receive are configured for TDMA, but I have not seen a single TDMA voice grant the entire time. As far as I can tell, the local systems are nowhere near reaching the bandwidth limitations of phase 1 here.

So glad I took the time to post here. Thanks a lot for the fake twitter account in search results. Please guys, I do not have the h ttps://twitter.com/#!/bluetail account. I do not have a political message to share here. The BlueTail Technologies twitter account with 0 followers is here:
https://twitter.com/bluetail

I get the message. I am not welcome here. No problem. No need to sabbotage me further. Thanks.

I think GTR8000 gave an excellent response to the question about why a jurisdiction may or may not upgrade from Phase 1 to Phase 2. I'll just add that part of it is timing: If you just completed a Phase 1 system in ~2013, it had plenty of capacity for the foreseeable future, and you were still making payments on it, you probably weren't going to upgrade to Phase 2 in the near term just because it became available and was better.

In 2020, if a locality is just now replacing an antiquated EDACS radio system, or an old conventional system, with a new trunking system, then it makes sense for them to go right to P25 Phase 2.

I'm in the East Bay. Although I only run across P25 Phase 1, original plans called for an eventual switch to Phase 2 at some point. It seems like the can has been kicked ahead but I suspect it will come eventually. If you're one to buy a new scanner every year or so, you could get by with a Phase one capable scanner now but you will be fighting simulcast distortion (and it will frustration the snot out of you). If I were in the market today, I'd buy one that could handle both Phase 2 and simulcast distortion.

Also doesn't hurt to be rolling in TDMA enabled SU's during the standard service life upgrades if you have a Phase2 capable or Phase 2 ready system assuming budget allows for it. Though, in one situation I could see it practical for building a Phase 2 ready system with Phase 1 in mind.
