Is Single talkgroup monitoring with SDR Trunk possible?

I want to monitor a single talk group via 2 sites on a Motrbo Con+ Dmr system (Saianet), using SDR trunk ver.6 and I am a newbie to sdr trunk. I have successfully accomplished this using dsdplus Fastlane.

I have 2 rtl-sdr dongles. I have a single dongle programmed with that single talkgroup, on a single site.

The problem I am having is, I am hearing other talk groups that are not programmed in. How do I get to only have audio from the single talkgroup I wish to monitor?

You should be able to create a blacklist alias and assign a talk group range with values 1 to 16,777,215. Set Listen and Record to off.

This will match all of the talk groups that you haven't explicitly listed and cause them to not be monitored

Not sure I am following, I put "blacklist" under alias? then I put "1 to 16,777,215" under group?

Just create a new alias. You can name it whatever you want - Blacklist is an example.

  • In the Identifier section, select: Add Identifier -> DMR -> Talkgroup Range
  • Set the DMR Talkgroup Range to " 1 - 16777215"
  • Be sure to set Listen to Off in order to mute all talkgroups except the one that you have programmed. You probably want to set Record to Off as well.

The range of talkgroups will match all talkgroups except what you have explicitly defined in the alias list.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I figured it out earlier, and your explanation and diagram prove I did it correct. I have another question.....is it common to get little blurbs of audio from groups you have listen set to off? It is like it doesn't shut it down instantly and millisecond of the transmission comes through.

Don't think it should be doing that and I am submitting that sometime today. I have everything set to listen Off and have a the wildcard tg set to record, with listen off, and still get bits and pieces. Does not really bother me because I use Trunking Recorder to handle anything I want to listen to so SDRT speaker is always set to mute.

I actually get full transmission still coming through of talkgroups that should be muted. I need to eliminate that.

You have a playlist with the one tg and created a blocked tg range entry? Is the blocked entry set to off for listen and record?

Yes and I have since added all talkgroups on the sites and turned off listen on all the talkgroups except one. However, I am still hearing talk groups I am not interested in.

Could be operator error, just double checked and everything and found the one site I had talk groups set to listen, I though I did those a couple times. Testing some more.

I think I have it 98% sorted out by putting radio ID's 1 to 9999 in the identifiers, along with the talk group lockouts.

Next question is how does the priority setting work? is 9 higher priority than 1? or is opposite? what number would I use to make sure a talkgroup is priority?

Did you mean to set the DMR Talkgroup Range to “1000 - 16777215 instead of " 1 - 16777215”?
I had it both ways trying track down why talk groups/unit to unit transmission between 1000 and 9999 were still being heard. I have since put it back to 1.

My thinking is these are "Private" calls?

From: Playlist Editor
  • Priority - controls the listening or monitoring priority: 1 = highest, 99 = lowest. Note: you do not have to specify a priority. The default priority, when not specified, is 100 (lowest).

Having a talkgroup hold would be the killer feature. It would be nice to hold on one when only certain TG traffic that needs to be heard. I don't know why that feature is not there, seems like a no-brainer to code that. It's not rocket science.
