Has anyone else seen the State Police Car with the single bubble on top? Saw it i Decatur this AM but had no camera. Is it a throw back car or what?

That is a very old cruiser if it had the single bubble on top. What make/model car was it? It is so long ago I can't even tell you what year it was. In the 80s they were using two red rotators on a light bar. I do remember a single rotating beacon being used in the 70s.

Being that my brother used to Dispatch for ISP Dist 13 and ISP Dist 52 you might want to talk to your local ISP PIO Officer at the post that is located in your area and he might be able to give you some infomation about the car. This sounds like something that PIO Public Infomation Office downtown at the Indiana Goverment Center is putting together. When my brother was dispatching at Dist 52 I was shown the enitre area where all the cars are put together incuding the install of the radios, lights, etc. This might be a car that will be put in the ISP museum at 8500East 21Street..They are out driving it around before they put it on display or maybe they are thinking about a more fuel saving car and have found out that they can get better gas mileage with a single dome vs having a light bar on top.The Gov( x-41) is wanting the state to cut back on spending money.I will call the Dist 52 PIO Officer and see what I can find out about this car.I have not seen it in the Indianapolis Dist 52 area yet. Thanks for posting the picture. djl998

I saw the same or a similar car yesterday at the Indiana Gov't Center. It was parked next to the current dark style ISP car but it has a "orange" stripe instead of the white stripe. I believe for safety reasons ISP is getting back to the white squad with the blue stripe. Too bad a trooper wasn't around for me to ask the question to. I really can't see ISP getting away from the L.E.D. lights and going to the bubble light, even with a possible cost savings.

Sounds like a car being tested by ISP for new cars to be out on the road.Maybe we will see Indiana going back to one bubble light on the roof later down the road and going back to a all white car like they used to have back in the 70"s.

ISP for some reason set up a new car with retro markings and an old bubble light. I have no idea what the story behind it is, but here's a picture. Notice the old school low band antenna.

That's definitely the 70s look, only with a new Crown Vic! It would be nice if they were going back to low band too!

BTW, I read somewhere that the black cruisers with the yellow decals are Motor Carrier Division cars.

The Motor Carrier Division cars I see are medium to light blue with darker blue decals.

Around the government center, you'll see Capitol Police in black cars with yellow or orange stripes.

Motor Carrier has white car (s) down south which slightly different decals. The color matches the newer cars. Though many older black cars are still on the road here as well.
I think they are passing around old pool cars for Motor Carrier.

I can shed some light on this. Motor Carrier is switching to the white cars as well. It's just taking a bit for them all to cycle through. As far as the bubbles, there are only 2 in the State and they belong to the Sgt. Major and the Supt.

are ya sure scannerfreak? I saw Supt Whitesell getting in his car Thursday at the Govt Center and it was a black car with an LED bar, however it had the retro ('old') yellow/orange stripe (like the PIO officers have at each post)...
I can confirm that Sgt/Major Popplewell has the new white CVPI with the single bubble on the roof...don't believe they're looking to 'go back' to that style of light...they dont make those anymore and the one on that car I understand they had to buy online...

I passed a "recent" ISP commission today that was on a stop on southbound I-69 near the 71mm (Grant County) that had the bubble/dome emergency light in a white/red combo. I say "recent" because it was a white commission with the newer ISP logo featuring the ISP shield over a gold chevron. It also had rear deck lights. I didn't hear any related traffic on SAFE-T while I was in the area, so I'm not sure if this commission was tasked to traffic enforcement or CVED, but this was very close to the weight station.

Edit: Looking back at the album that SCANMUNCIE posted, I guess the gold chevron logo has been around longer than I realized. I only started to notice them when they started putting it on the newer Charger commissions.
