What scanner are you using?

In the areas around Cuyahoga County, what scanner are you using? Since MARCS and GCRCN systems are simulcast I'm looking to purchase a new radio/receiver to be used in my car. Hoping to hear from users with what they use and what works best. I have a TRX-1 which works at home with no issue, but really sucks when driving around. I've had it for a while and can't seem to find the settings that will make it work everywhere.

SDR's and software works great, but a laptop isn't easy to manipulate while driving. :{)

Thanks!

Your only real choice if you want guaranteed results on simulcast systems are the SDS scanners. Or of course a Unication pager.

I scan both systems, I’m generally out of range for GCRCN at home with the SDS100, but the Unication G5 picks it up.

I became so sick of USB and repair issues with Uniden, I don’t see myself purchasing from them again.

I really really like the Ohio RSN website and iOS app for mobile scanning in the car when scanners aren’t with me, far superior to Broadcastify Calls without the unintelligent admin blocks for in the clear channels they arbitrarily determine to be tac, and without the absurd and obtuse restrictions on node scanning.

For home I use SDS200, GRE 500, GRE Legacy 800, BC125 all with great results and no simulcast distortion. For mobile SDS200 and BC125 (trains). The 500 and 800 are useless mobile due to simulcast.

I use the SDS100 in my car with a cup holder and the stock antenna. I power it with the USB cable. I only use the Cuyahoga County site control channels in my favorite places settings. The radio works great on both the MARCS and GCRRN systems.

I use an SDS100 (portable/mobile) and two SDS200s (home). TRX1 and PSR500 worked sorta OK when wandering around in simulcast areas but never had a huge amount of luck.
