Received a beautiful QSL CARD from the ISS amateur station NA1SS.......had worked them recently and got a full data card back in a week......sent an SASE......they provide cards for SWL reception of the ISS stations too, just make sure you clearly state that your report is a SWL report and not for a QSO......

FYI : North America QSL address for NA1SS :

ARRL Headquarters
ARISS QSL
225 Main Street
Newington, CT 06111-1494

tho their website does not mention it, i would include an SASE, as you should for any stateside QSL manager.....

Commander Doug Wheelock (KF5BOC) is currently operating the station and is VERY actice ! ( late afternoon and early morning passes over NA especially ) He was on FM voice on 145.800 downlink (144.49 uplink) almost every day it seemed in July......and he said he really looks forward to his operating time up there---so, work him or just listen while you can, before the crew changes out...his replacement might not be so active-- HI HI !

the ISS card goes nicely with my amateur radio QSL cards from MIR and Shuttle Columbia.....three for three in manned space orbital programs......

congrats on the QSL and your other manned spaceflight catches.

thanks !

i didn't mean the posting to be about 'ME'....i wanted to encourage everyone out there who has heard the ISS or ARISS transmissions to send off for their own QSL CARD for their collections !

i keep meaning to send off to NASA for a verification of the Space Shuttles for their 259.7 Shuttle comms that I hear during launches to the ISS.....but i keep forgetting about trying it.....

Utility QSL's can be fun.....YES they do exist ! And like in the old days you can make up your own pre fab card for them to sign and fill in the details....or they can send you a verification letter on official letterhead....i have a 'non confirmation, confirmation' from a Minuteman Missle silo ! The commander said he couldn't officially confirm my reception, but that the content of my report was essentially correct<WINK><WINK> !! Great stuff as a young kid......A tip of the hat to Tom Kneitel, the guru of Utility DX'ing back in the day !!

But SPACE....it NEVER gets old hearing radio transmissions from SPACE ! I guess it keeps the kid alive in some of us, like back when we grew up together with the first space programs.....MAGIC !!! Catch it while you can....

Well- I was "Welcomed aboard the International Space Station" today be CDR Doug Wheelock.

As the signal was fading, I got in my call. He almost got my callsign right, but messed up a letter. I repeated my callsign, he reconfirmed, but still one letter off. The signal was fading fast. Just barely made it through! I didn't bother to resend my call, he was fading quite fast, and I wanted to leave an opportunity open for others.

Hopefully, I will send a QSL card in, and do you get one back then? I really want one! What do I need to do to get one, and what do you mean by SASE?

I still am in shock. After five days, I made it! With a simple 1/4 wave.

Thanks,
Caleb

See message 1 of this thread; be sure to be as complete as you can about the details....congrats - you proved that it doesn't take much to talk to the ISS, even if for a moment....73 Mike

ISS Contact

Hi, just wanted to say that I made my very frist contact with the ISS! I very happy about this, it happend around 16:30 AST in Saint John, NB with CDR Doug Wheelock. So this is very new to me, so please forgive me but if I send a QSL/Postcard I'll get a QSL from the ISS? Or do they send them out anyway?

There was a note, I think on the AMSAT website, that mentioned that the QSL manager had to order more cards - he ran out after Commander Wheelock did so many QSOs during his stay.
