To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Tytera Issue with MD-UV380 Firmware

I installed the MD-UV380/390 5W Plus GPS FW (S219.43) on my NON-PLUS device, after which the device hung on the boot screen, so I restored the latest NON PLUS firmware (S19.32), and reflashed my codeplug for good measure. Would have been nice to have the plus features on the old radio, but seems I discovered the hard way that this is not possible. Now, it boots and runs as expected, except for one really strange issue: No matter what the frequency is in the codeplug, it will always be 450.0000 on the radio. No matter how many times I reflash the FW or the codeplug. Has anyone ever experienced a similiar issue, or have some sort of idea how to fix the radio? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried manually reprogramming the radio?

No luck. I think the problem is related to the fact that I flashed "universal" privacy settings from a PLUS codeplug. I don't think this radio can handle that, and it is interfering with reading the frequencies. Everything works, all settings, contacts, names, etc. write fine, the only issue is that every single channel frequency remains consistently at 450.0000. Even manually reprogramming doesn't work. I enter the new frequency by hand, press confirm, it gives a success message, but when I return to the channel screen, it is still 450.0000. I wonder if there is a way to wipe the "universal" privacy data? I tried setting all 255 entries to "none" and blanking out the key, but it didn't help.
Even more strange: When I read from the radio, it retrieves all of the frequency data, as it should be. That means the frequencies are properly stored on the device, it is just not processing them correctly. I had the calibration data from this device saved, so I restored that, but it didn't help.

Figured it out, and I'm going to post the fix in case anyone comes across the same issue. First, I tried installing OpenGD77, based on this thread, which worked beautifully. I did not experience any of the issues mentioned in the thread. I then read further, and saw that the issue of hanging on 450.0000 may be connected to the radio being "locked". I thought this strange because my radio most definitely was "unlocked" - I remember unlocking it when I first got it, and have successfully flashed and used multiple codeplugs since. However, it seems that messing with the firmware (I had tried to install the "Plus" firmware - S219.43, before restoring to S19.32) caused the radio to "re-lock". Thankfully, I had followed OpenGD77's recommendation of backing up the flash memory before flashing their codeplugs, so I was able to revert to "stock" firmware, and tried unlocking the radio again. (Unlocking the radio is a simple procedure: Just power it on while holding the two side buttons: The one above PTT and the one below.) Now everything is working great. I'm posting this because this behavior of reverting to locked state after firmware modifications doesn't seem to be documented anywhere else. I hope it helps someone!

Thanks for posting your solution.
I'm sure others will come across this in the future and be grateful to learn from your experience.
