ITAC CHANNELS

Yesterday Waterbury's radio system was down and they used ITAC 2 for pd and ITAC 3 for the fd to communicate. i don't know if these are programmed in their radios or if they are on a separate portable ,but when I was on Wolcott vol fd our chief was issued a seperate portable radio with the ITAC channels on it but as far as I can remember we never used it, my question is does any dept use ITAC anymore with the amount of mutual aid freqs that are out there ,i have them on my scanner but that group ,locked out except for yesterday when I wanted to hear Waterbury. does anyone else monitor them and hear anything on a daily basis ,i believe it was set up after 9/11 s depts. from out of state or mutual aid towns can communicate.

ICALL & ITAC are the old 800MHz designations as there are now VHF (VCALL/VTAC), UHF (UCALL/UTAC), 700MHz (7CALL & 7TAC) and 800MHz (8CALL/8TAC) versions.
There are VHF, UHF, & 800MHz repeaters around the state. they can be used by themselves or patched together between bands.
It is not supposed to be used on a daily basis but more for emergency use like Waterbury is doing. Also, Waterbury has the 8CALL & 8TAC channels in all their radios.
Some responders can barely handle turning on the radio, finding interop channels in a different Zone can be an adventure.

I agree....... Why not put STOCS (only 3 channels really) in the first bank so they are always easily accessable!!
And why not use your interop channels on a regular basis - exercise system failure, so responders (all disciplines) know when to switch to when they cant get into a system???
