• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I filled for 2 VHF and 2 UHF frequencies for itinerant use 2 weeks ago, still showing pending. On the FCCs Industrial / Business Licensing page it states "You may begin operating your system 10 days after your application is filed with the FCC." Does this apply to itinerant licenses or am I stuck waiting for approval?

Read Part 90 and decide for yourself.
(c) An applicant proposing to operate an itinerant station or an applicant seeking the assignment of authorization or transfer of control for an existing station below 470 MHz or in the 769-775/799-805 MHz, the 806-824/851-866 MHz band, or the one-way paging 929-930 MHz band (other than a commercial mobile radio service applicant or licensee on these bands) may operate the proposed station during the pendency of its application for a period of up to one hundred eighty (180) days upon the filing of a properly completed formal Form 601 application that complies with § 90.127 of this part. Conditional authority ceases immediately if the application is dismissed by the Commission. All other categories of applications listed in § 90.175 of this part that do not require evidence of frequency coordination are excluded from the provisions of this section.

I just got my fixed location and state wide itinerate license. It took almost exactly 30 days! I’m operating mine P25 encrypted… I specifically chose the 35W channels as opposed to the high power channels hoping that more people would want to go with, in the words of Tim the tool man Taylor, MORE POWER!!!!

Just checked the ULS portal and they now have my status as returned, indicating I need to fix something and resubmit it, but I can not seem to find where I can see what needs to be fixed. Should I be expecting something in the mail, I did this all electronically.

An attachment will appear on the Admin page of the application within a day or two explaining why it was returned.

464.500 and 464.550 are like that here during the day.
I use to listen to the default Motorola CLS1410 freqs in the 467.800 area, lots of chatter from stores.
Heard a guy get on and say "this is Josh signing on to provide excellent customer service" at a chain restaurant.

These users think a call sign is one they put in the window with a phone number for after hours emergencies.

I would be curious as to why they returned it. I tried to file a new itinerant back in April just around time of the fee changes and resulting GMRS filing avalanche. The system kicked me out 3 times and I gave up to do it later. I never got a file number so will be starting from step one again.

If it is the one I think it is, the letter didn't get posted/sent until today. You may want to ask someone about the best way to address their comment.

When I filed for mine, which was just granted a couple of weeks ago, I used the Wireless Infrastructure Association since I was applying for fixed location channels as well. They definitely helped me with my eligibility statement etc. I also made sure to have my trade name used in the application registered with my state and I made sure to have an EIN from the IRS. I also set up a FRN for my business because I want the business to be separate from my personal licenses. Maybe this is not all necessary, but I’d heard about hams having a hard time getting licenses, especially for itinerates, when using their personal FRN. I guess some people are applying for commercial licenses just to have some private channels to play with, and not for any actual commercial purposes… In the words of The Offspring “You Gotta Keep ‘Em Separated”…

His application was rejected because it doesn't meet the requirements for itinerant operation. Filing for a license for itinerant frequencies is not a way around obtaining proper frequency coordination. The FCC is keenly aware of people who try to get a quick and easy license this way, and those sorts of applications won't get by them.

Thanks, but I did not file for Itinerant use to try to get around proper frequency coordination but thanks for assuming. There is a list of VHF/UHF itinerant channels on this site and another one and both showed all 4 frequencies were for itinerant use. Guess they were out of date, was just gonna use them to chat with some buddies but I've found zello to work better for my needs while waiting for approval, no license needed and its free.

I wasn't assuming anything, I was making a general statement. So you're assuming that I'm assuming, when in fact I was just making a factual statement. And yeah, "chatting with buddies" is not a valid reason for obtaining an IG license. That's what GMRS or ham is for.
