It's such a shame that the Baofeng UV-5R beats the SDS100 in this category...

Looks like if you have the 3D printer you can make anything for any radio. I'm sure all that crap is not in stock and they are custom made to order, no?

To me there's something weird about comparing a very cheap boweldung to an SDS 100, it's like comparing apples to bowling balls.😉

Yeah, there is no comparison to radio quality, reception or capabilities... apples and bowling balls for sure. It's just a shame that more items have not been designed for the SDS100, like battery doors, battery replacements, replacement belt clips, knobs and such.

...because the Uniden quality levels dictate that such a replacement market should even exist?
I guess you have a point there LOL, I can think of a few things that would be neat to have like holders, cases and a large knob.

Well, why haven't you fired up a CAD and designed some things?

Oh, this old trolling tactic... Do all astronauts design and build rocket engines? Does everyone who likes and listens to music write songs and play instruments? Does everyone who owns a computer write programs in machine language? Does every housewife build houses?

I love it! Actually, I wish I did have more free time. Being a semi-retired old man I have very little time for my NUMEROUS hobbies, if I'm not working, my honey takes up a lot of my time, and she's the priority. When I do have a few spare moments I do like to log in here and I noticed this disparity, so I commented on it.

Now that I think more about it, it could be that since the UV-5R is so cheap, there are a lot more owners of them than the SDS radios. But my real reason for commenting on it is because I've read posts from others in the past about how Uniden will NOT sell repair parts, but instead makes owners send in the whole unit leaving them deprived of its use, sometimes for lengthy periods of time.

If I was trolling, I would have added stop WHINING and design something. You seem to be such an expert in so many areas, I would think it would be "trivial" for an impressive individual such as yourself to do. /t

Does every astronaut WHINE there are no FREE items for him to freely pirate and use?

If an astronaut makes a simple comment, who unilaterally claims he's whining? If an astronaut didn't claim he wanted the items for himself, why would someone arbitrarily imply he wanted free items? If an astronaut went to a 3D printing site where items are freely shared by their generous designers, how could someone falsely claim the astronaut was pirating anything? I would suggest that if anyone did that sort of thing, they would committing slander, but that just my opinion.

The only thing a CCR is better than a SDS Scanner is being a cheap piece of junk.

True, the UV-5R is a cheap piece of Chinese junk, but it's a cheap piece of Chinese junk with more 3rd party user support than the SDS. Truth is truth, no matter how much we wish it were otherwise.

All I want for my sds100 is a well-fitting plastic case with a simple on and off belt clip and a tall function knob to slip over the original that doesn't cover up the earphone jack. Black would be fine.

Would someone make me one?😉

I get your humor, but then again I'm not personally asking for anything, just making a comment on the situation. I do find it amusing how some jump to conclusions on motive though.

You can add 3rd party support for these junk CCR radios all you want. Junk is junk, no matter how much you spin it.

It might sound like it but I'm actually not kidding, I'm asking for a plastic case, that fits the SDS 100 with the big butt battery, with openings for the display and the keyboard, no cheesy plastic cover needed as the radio is already water resistant, with a simple belt clip attached to the case that has a lip to keep it on your belt would be very cool and I really would like to have one, the extended knob without covering the earphone jack might be more difficult but.. I'm actually not kidding🙂..

As far as motives and people's conclusions, CCR's are what they are.. setting the Boweldung's aside, there are some knockoffs for 30 bucks now that do things radios thousands of dollars more do.. for that kind of money it's fun to get two of them, one to use and one to modify and experiment with.

Because it's cheap Chinese crap is why it cost the price of 4 craft beers at the brewery.
