You can add 3rd party support for these junk CCR radios all you want. Junk is junk, no matter how much you spin it.
No spin here, I agree with you, it IS a piece of junk.

As far as motives and people's conclusions, CCR's are what they are.. setting the Boweldung's aside, there are some knockoffs for 30 bucks now that do things radios thousands of dollars more do.. for that kind of money it's fun to get two of them, one to use and one to modify and experiment with.
Because it's cheap Chinese crap is why it cost the price of 4 craft beers at the brewery.
A bit off topic but I had a "deer in the headlights" moment while reading your post and couldn't comprehend what you were saying. I thought you were talking about cheap Chinese knockoffs of Baofengs. That'd be funny.
Actually I was talking about a CCR knock off of a Bowledung and yes it is totally off topic for this specific thread which HAS stayed on topic and has been funny here in the tavern LOL. I would like to see more 3D printer accessories for radios in general, especially Uniden scanners.A bit off topic but I had a "deer in the headlights" moment while reading your post and couldn't comprehend what you were saying. If you're interested, Google Quansheng UV-K5, a knockoff of the 5R but with far more hackable modifications and options but this is NOT the place for discussing it.
I want to see that 3D printer case for my SDS 100 and maybe even the long function knob.😁
Looks interesting, I use the Scanner Master nylon case that has the clumsy swiveling, difficult to slide in and out belt clip.Have you seen this belt clip?

Yeah, I know. Just trying to make it sound a little better for my own benefit. They call that a brain fart.
Actually you were right and you read it right, I was talking about a bowldung knock off that I named. Just didn't want to derail the thread.Yeah, I know. Just trying to make it sound a little better for my own benefit.

trentbob: How can "ANYONE" even TRY to compare a Uniden Bearcat SDS100 to a CCR Baofeng UV-5R? You MUST be kidding me! A $25 HAM Radio transceiver, single conversion with RF-INTERMOD. REALLY!!Looks like if you have the 3D printer you can make anything for any radio. I'm sure all that crap is not in stock and they are custom made to order, no?
To me there's something weird about comparing a very cheap boweldung to an SDS 100, it's like comparing apples to bowling balls.😉
buddrousa, You got that right!Sorry if you are offended but we need scanners NOT WHACKER TOOLS.
omega-TL, That's exactly what JoeBearcat needs to address HOWEVER, a Baofeng UV-5R is NOT in the same league as a Bearcat SDS100 and it is NOT a fair comparison either, so I guess you have nothing better to do.I love it! Actually, I wish I did have more free time. Being a semi-retired old man I have very little time for my NUMEROUS hobbies, if I'm not working, my honey takes up a lot of my time, and she's the priority. When I do have a few spare moments I do like to log in here and I noticed this disparity, so I commented on it.
Now that I think more about it, it could be that since the UV-5R is so cheap, there are a lot more owners of them than the SDS radios. But my real reason for commenting on it is because I've read posts from others in the past about how Uniden will NOT sell repair parts, but instead makes owners send in the whole unit leaving them deprived of its use, sometimes for lengthy periods of time.

Have a good weekend, Omega-TI.
