Yep, the dates are the 1st and 2nd of March. There's preliminary information on the fest, online registration and much more here...

NASWA Winter SWL Fest

And I'll add a little bonus - yours truly is in the picture at the top. Those of you that have met me at the various Fests can find me easily...

Anyway, there's always a scanning forum or two along with many other different topics. Hope to see you there.

Shortwave Radio Conventions

Can someone please tell me why they don't hold "Shortwave Radio Conventions" here on the west coast? why are they ALWAYS back east? There are many SWL monitors out here as their are on the east coast, does anyone gave an answer. Thanks, Rick, WA6KFI

The only answer I could come up with is the most logical one - It takes a great deal of work, let's face it. I seem to remember that the old ASWLC (before it went all Yahoo group...) had conventions in the past as well.

This is something that takes a lot of time and planning, and not everyone can put that kind of time out.

NASWA's been doing it for a VERY long time (this is their 26th) and has built up something of a reputation for it. It's kind of a shame that we don't have big clubs like SPEEDX was years ago anymore for the competition...Mike

Swl conventions...

Now that I think of it we did have a shortwave radio convention back in the 80's I think? and it was in Orange County! But I don't recall what group did it...

I'm fairly sure either ASWLC or SPEEDX were involved with it, perhaps not the hosts. I *think* there was a Southern California DXers group that did a few over the years, too.

The last one I attended on the West Coast was an ANARC convention at the University of Cal San Diego - lovely campus, by the way. But that was a long time ago...Mike

I guess the reason they aren't held on the west coast is there are no shortwave stations on the west coast. In this day of rapidly declining foreign shortwave stations, it's amazing this event still takes place.

Shortwave Radio West Coast

Just because some of us are on the West Coast does not mean we are not monitoring stations! I monitor R. Japan, R. New Zealand, R. Australia, R. China the list goes on. And we have are old radio sites too here, that if a SW Convention was to be held now...it would most likely be a good one. No matter where you are East Coast or West Coast their is radio history, landmarks and people who would show up and talk about the old days. The only deference is...its always warm and sunny in Southern California and girls in Bikini's to make you feel good!
