Public 86 page OIG report on IWN is out.

www.usdoj.gov/oig/reports/OBD/a0725/final.pdf

DOJ law enforcement components expect IWN to replace or upgrade current legacy land mobile radio systems. IWN will likely be a combination of land mobile radio, cellular telephones, and walkie-talkie devices. IWN is planned to provide reliable, secure, nationwide wireless communications capabilities and land mobile radio functionality. IWN is also intended to enhance and simplify communications interoperability with other federal and non-federal wireless users through increased coverage and capabilities. Additionally, IWN is expected to reduce the capital and operational costs of nationwide wireless communications in support of federal law enforcement officers through economies of scale.

Very interesting. Sault Ste. Marie, MI went live a couple of days ago. It is extremely low power though. Anyone know if they are going to boost the power when more users come on?

I've been watching your posts over on the Michigan forum. The IWN hasn't started it's deplyment outside the Pacific Northwest yet, and the next phase scheduled for deployment is the Arizona / New Mexico border areas. So I'm not sure that you are picking up what you think you are, but would like to know more.

If you park your PRO-96 on this control channel in the MO mode, what does the radio display show? If should show the type of system (M36 or M96) and the System ID and WACN info (if it's an M96).

Oh, to answer your orignal question, the IWN sites up here are not low powered. They can be heard very clearly over 20 mile radius from the trunked sites. They were up for quite a while for testing before the IWN system was fully operational.

Well, the control channel that I am picking up is showing TGID numbers. I am not getting it good enough to be able to get system ID info.

According to the database (for Michigan) the IWN system is operation here, and it is on the frequency I am picking up. I still need to do some detective work, but I believe this is what I am picking up.

That's what I'm confused by - My PRO-96 doesn't show talk groups when parked on a control channel, so I'm wondering what you are seeing...

Keep us posted!

I saw that and wasn't sure if it was added as a result of your posts or something else...

Another possiblity that should be considered (if it is a P-25 control channel) is that it could be a VHF interop site on the MPSCS 800 MHz P-25 trunked system. There are some areas that have federal VHF sites that are networked to public safety P-25 trunked systems. The Phoenix metro area is one...

The key to this is seeing what the System ID is..

Sys ID: 715 at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan as reported by another used with a Pro 2096.

73's

Well that pretty much nails it!

Now if someone could run PRO96COM on this control channel, we could get some voice channels and adjacent site info!

Why not run it in OPEN mode. You will see all talkgroups associated with the CC. But, you can run Pro96com too.

Anyone know the Base, Spacing, and offset for this system? I am having trouble picking it up and I think it is due to the fact that when I program it into my Pro-96 it puts the freq of 167.8125 as 167.815.
