Jamestown 400

Within the last few minutes I have watched someone test radio 84425 (one of the 84xxx series radios used during the Queen's visit). This time they were testing the affiliation on talkgroups 1500, 1502, 1503, 1504, 1505, 1506, 1507, 1508, 1509, 1064, and 1173. After the testing, the radio was turned off. This testing is the first time I have ever seen the 15xx series of talkgroups. It is quite possible the 15xx series will be used for Jamestown 400. Time will tell....along with my Pro96com software.

Today, someone tested the affiliation of 30 84xxx radios on talkgroup 1064. I'm not real sure who uses 1064. There has been some encrypted radio transmissions on 1064 this morning by the 84xxx radios. The 84xxx radios are the only radios affiliated with 1064. Right now there are five 84xxx radios "parked" on 1064.

As an aside, there are 9 radios on JC Special Events 1 (1267). Two are JCPD (51xxx), 4 are JCFD (67xxx) and 3 Kingsmill Security (93xxx). They are supporting the Kingsmill LPGA golf tournament.

On Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM, there may be some very interesting "scanning" at Jamestown 400. Local news media is reporting that a group called "Shame on Jamestown" is planning on a demonstration. Some planners for that demonstration held a news conference on Monday at the Jamestown Settlement living museum until Jamestown officials told them to leave. Groups behind "Shame on Jamestown" include the Black Lawyers for Justice, the American Indian Movement, the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense, and the All African People Revolution Party.

Sounds like a return to the 1960's.............

Talkgroups 1510 and 1511 just appeared for the first time. There are now ten 84xxx radios parked on 1510. There are still five 84xxx radio on 1064. There was some encrypted testing on 1510 and 1511 by radio 84800.

Talkgroup 1064 is being used for Jamestown 2007. I just heard someone delivering a "command trailer" on Jamestown Rd. However, almost all of the traffic on 1064 is encrypted. It looks like most of the radios on 1064 are JCFD radios.

The radio tech are now programming 999xx series radios. They are testing them on the JCPD, YCSO, WPD, and other talkgroups used for Jamestown.

The Jamestown site where the Verizon portable tower and the tall telephone pole with the 800 MHz antenna now looks like an antenna farm. See what a little rain will do to make things grow.

There is now another portable 800 MHz antenna with trailer (probably the Motorola rental), a STARS trailer (says STARS on the side) with an antenna, and a RV with the Commonwealth of Virginia logo on the side (I could not get close enough to read the rest of the markings).

The new TRS system is active and kicking out a control channel on 866.1250 MHz and a system ID of "0275h-0101" It is a P25 system. I can only receive it with a handheld scanner when I am within 2 miles. I cannot hear it from my house five miles away. The system ID was read with my BCD-396T, and I programmed the radio several ways to receive the control channel. The only setting to receive and decode the system was when the 396T was set up for a P25 system.

I have not heard any voice transmissions on the new TRS....which I guess we can call it the Jamestown system.

Most of the transmission on the JC/YC/WMBG talkgroups assigned to the Jamestown 2007 event have been encrypted.

When I can go back into the area, I will try to read the STARS control channel. More to follow.

The STARS website states that their they have a portable 5-channel trunked system in the 800 MHz range (wouldn't hurt to check 700 also). There are some state type allocations in the 764-766 range and the 774-776 range.

The trailer was also at the State Capitol for the Queen's arrival.

I have been listening to STARS Richmond. There have been numerous VSP marking "on" heading to a special assignment at Jamestown.

Talkgroup 1077 is being used for the logistical support for Jamestown. Most of the radio are 61xxx. These radio are normally used by JCC maintenance personnel. Most of the transmission are not encrypted. I just heard "Logistic" calling the Deputy Logistic's Chief.

Talkgroups 1064 and 1510 have been very active. 1064 has the 67xxx radio used by JCFD. 1510 has the 84xxx radios. Most of this is encrypted.

I will let everyone know but I will be listening in Hopewell to see anything going on with our celebration this weekend. They are having a festival like thing for it. Music on friday from Ft. Lee Army Band, the HHS marching band and choir. Then on sat going to have rides for the kids, a boat parade, and fireworks.

The Jamestown TRS (866.125 MHz) is now active with voice. I went to the area (you almost have to see the antenna to hear it) and picked up on the Jamestown TRS the following talkgroups: 1026, 1029, and 1041. All of the transmissions were encrypted. It is very limited in range.

While in the area, I saw a menagerie of police vehicle ranging from marked VSP, black suburbans, and the Newport News Bomb squad.

Other talkgoups being used on the JC/YC/WMBG system are 1065, 1066 and 1068.

At 1113 hours on talkgroup 1064, I heard radio 67015 (possibly a Fire Chief) telling someone who was encrypted to deliver the radios to him. Not long after that I heard voice activity on the Jamestown TRS.

There are numerous RVs in the area. The large RV I mentioned in a previous post is the Virginia Department of Health's Command Post.

I did not hear anything I could associate with STARS.

I sure would like to know what frequencies ae being used by the STARS trailer. Anyone have any ideas?

At approximately 1:00 PM, a mobile protective service detail came off the Jamestown Ferry, down Jamestown Rd and into Williamsburg. According to transmission heard, Chesapeake PD was involved. State Police was using 154.665 MHz. I have no idea who they were escorting. The motorcade was completed around 1:30 PM.

Now there is a substantial amount of activity on 154.665 MHz with the VSP...it is somewhat humorous since they are not from this area...and are getting lost (which is easy to do in Williamsburg) trying to find their way to the hotel where they are staying while on the detail. Right now they are looking for the Day's Inn.

One of the trooper is laughing and saying that "this is getting embarrassing". The troopers are from Roanoke...and are really lost. They said they could make it back to Roanoke quicker than find where they are going.

Now is the official start of Jamestown 2007. All the above talkgroups are very active. Most are encrypted.

The unencrypted talkgroups I have noticed are 1254 (Park Police) and some on 1064 and 1068.

James City School Buses (1126) are being used to transport visitors. Some of the drivers have had problems with getting the correct credentials to access the Island. They are trying to wok out that problem. Hard to believe they won't recognize a big yellow school bus.

Virginia State Police are using 154.665 MHz to coordinate the movement to Jamestown.

All the 84xxx radio are encrypted....no exceptions. They are the only units transmitting on the 15xx series talkgroup. On the 13xx talksgroups, most units are 84xxx radios. However, there are some National Park Service Police (42xxx radios) on 1301.
I have noticed at least one 84xxx radio on the National Park Service Police talkgroup (1254).

Talkgroup 1066 is being used by local police for Jamestown. There are JCPD, WPD, and one 84xxx radio on the talkgroup. Most of the transmission are not encrypted (with the exception of the 84xxx radio).

Talkgroup 1174 is being used as a Marine Channel. There are numerous units using it. However, the only radio "seen" by Pro96com is 108050. This number usually indicates a base station console. What I think they have done is patched several different marine frequencies into the JC/YC/WMBG system through the console.

Right now they are running drills on the talkgroup. The talkgroup was normally used by JCFD.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter (6041) is transmitting on the Williamsburg Airport Unicom (122.800 MHz). It sounds like he is flying out of the airport and around the Jamestown area and Surry Nuclear Power Plant.

The Coast Guard helicopter just advised that he was going to be conducting Law Enforcement Patrols in the area of the James River.
