I believe Jedi & Jynx are C-17s out of the 305th Air Mobility Wing, McGuire AFB.

The C-17 will be at the Cleveland Airshow this weekend. Thanks for that one - I was looking for a known freq for Jedi!

Your welcome, I was hopping for some traffic/conversation of some type but there was none, Jedi 1 came in very loud and clear, I do pick up Cleveland Air frequencies hear in Fort Erie, I listen to Aircraft talking to the tower in the 118.0000 to 136.0000 MHz band Also 274.450 was active tonight Air Refueling practice, doing emergency disengage routines. Very weak signal so I could not get any more information.

Don't quite jump to the conclusion that this JEDI is a C-17A. I've heard the JEDI cs out of McGuire is a "local" callsign meaning used in the local area to the base. In know way am i discarding that this is a C-17. What did the transmission sound like? Did you hear a mask (echo) sound or did it sound like a microphone? One clue that would raise a flag for me is he was heard on UHF. I know there will be folks that will attest that they've heard "charley" types using UHF for ATC. I too have heard it but it doesn't happen very often. Most all use VHF for ATC.

I've heard JEDI calls in the past on both VHF and UHF and they have had a masky echo ring to the transmissions. I've been told that F-22's have used it along with F-16's out of New Jersey. Keep us posted and some more insight would be great.

Sounded like he was talking on the Microphone, very clear audio.

JEDI, when used by McGuire aircraft, would be for a C-17A flown by a crew from the 514th AMW AFRC unit. It should have a two-digit suffix though.

Someone above mentioned F-22 types using it. True. Langley F-22A aircraft use it fairly regularly.

I also agree with the comment that it's unusual for C-17s to be using a UHF ATC freq. They certainly have the ability but it's just generally not done. That's the only thing that would make me question whether this was a C-17A you heard. Well, that and the 1 rather than 01 suffix.

That was STEEL 61 (KC-135, 171st ARW, Pittsburgh, PA) and BOLAR 71 (C-5, 436AW, DOVER AFB).
