Ask your friend at the SO if they've started to replace the existing repeaters with digital ones (IIRC, they should be Motorola Quantar's.) Until that happens, they can still use their new HTs and mobile radios, but on analog mode only.

I really, really, really hope that the SO is going to add more repeaters when they bring this system up!

They're both doing fine. Thanks for asking!!

Let me know what you find out. After working a missing person search in the Graysville area with the SO a couple of years back, and having to watch them use FRS radios since their trunked radios wouldn't work there, i've been really curious as to how their digital system is going to work.

I don't know for sure but I was told that the city and the county were going to share towers, increasing the range for both agencies. I'll see what else I can find out but that's the last thing I heard.

I still think its a crock.....the 800 mhz. radio the county has now wont reach the far corners of jefferson county. how in the sam hill do they think birmingham's towers are going to reach on the digital crapola considering reports say it stays down more than up? a flagrant waste of taxpayers money again! (surprise, surprise). but then they must make their mark before getting voted out...(the commish) y'all have a nice day... Carl

By the way, tonite, for the first time, I heard Concord's daily test simulcast on the JeffCo Trunked System using talk group ID 15760.

This indicates that, in addition to the VHF frequencies being utilized by the department and the two UHF frequencies being used as a cross-band link to the dispatching ambulance service, there is now an 800mhz frequency pair being used to simulcast on the trunked system.

Let's see now.... firefighter transmits on input Vhf freq to simplex repeater which transmits on Vhf output freq to other units and Uhf crossband repeater which transmits on output Uhf freq to ambulance dispatch which transmits on 800mhz input to trunked system which transmits on output 800mhz freq.....

ain't our government efficient?

Has anyone identified the fire department on the Jeffco Trunked System using talk group ID 14160? Sounds like a large fire department, with several engine companies.

Dave,

Sunday, there was apparently a fire that required several engine companies use of that talk group Id. I have monitored B'port Fire in the past, (not on the trunked system, but on Vhf), and it didn't sound familiar. I heard engines 10, 30, and 35 using it, and later heard "Cahaba River Road Command" terminating their command. Can you confirm that this Id is assigned to B'port and not another FD?

I didn't have that one so I put it in and monitored it to see what I could find out. Today, I heard Jefferson County SO dispatch call Birmingport on it two different times. That's the only traffic I've heard on that ID since your post.

Are you sure it wasn't Rescue 35? Rocky Ridge could have been on Cahaba River Road. But that doesn't explain why JCSO dispatch was calling Birmingport on it... UNLESS it's some kind of new multi-jurisdiction communications channel.

I'll keep listening....

I'm sure it was engines, and they were charging lines and staging, etc. on a fire scene. I also heard JeffCo dispatch call B'port. once yesterday, but didn't have time to catch the Id.

Also, it turns out that only the tests are simulcast on the Concord Id. I heard them dispatched to a call, and it was not simulcast on the trunked system, but later the test was, ( 8am and 8pm).

 Birmingport Fire Primary Dispatch Main is 155.160 same shared by North Star EMS in tuscaloosa, the Sheriffs Dept. have been testing on it on a daily basis. but as for the strange Cahaba Valley Thing..I too am hearing Cahaba Valley Command coming over 154.430. I haven't tried the trunked thing yet to see what I can hear. who knows what the County Commisioners have come up with. maybe new (A Sewer Based Radio System?) and y'all remember the old childrens song.... "3 6 9, the Goose drank wine, the Monkey chewed tobacco on the STREETCAR line, the line broke, the Monkey got choked, and the all went to heaven in a little rowboat" that describes the Jeff. Co. Commission to the Fullest ! ! have a happy safe holiday...Carl

Talk Group 14160

Birmingham Fire had working fire about 0630 am Sunday on Cahaba River Road in a storage facility and apparently the digital system would not work from that location so Fire Alarm had all units on the fireground go to what they refered to as the Jefferson County mutual aid channel which was 14160 on the Jefferson county system. I believe fire alarm refered to it as "Smartcom 3".....................Bill

Thanks Bill,

I was thinking it was B'ham, but wanted more info to confirm it. From what I heard, your explanation sounds very accurate. Sounds like a good talk group Id to keep in my scan list.

Also, tonite Concord's calls are being simulcast on their new talk group Id where I had only been hearing the daily test, so it seems like there may have been some changes being made during the last few days.

It might be a good idea to "search" instead of "scan" on the JeffCo Trunked System for a while to explore new talk group Id's that might have been added.

Good Listening,
Ed
