First Post!!! Occasional reader of this board and now I have a reason to sign up. Going to pay for the premium access to the site in a bit after I play with my new toy.
Picked up a GRE PSR-300 today from Lentini in CT. Great shop! I think they are going to get all my radio business. (while my local radio shack has just cleared 2 4ft shelves for candybars:lol: tel# and zipcode for candybars!  ) I had been given a radioshack Pro-97 for Christmas, but after reading on here, I decided that the wall-wart, signal meter, reband compatibility, and slightly better sensitivity was worth the $50 difference to upgrade to the PSR-300. I didnt go for the 500 as the scanner was a gift and it seems to suit my needs with a ton of features I never had. The only thing I cant hear is State PD and Glastonbury, CT. If this scanner tickles me enough, I will upgrade to the 500 sooner or later. I was thrilled to find it scanning CT local PS right out of the box as nobody has their PC software out for it yet. I'm certain the software is soon due, so I'm not worried about that end of it. I already figured out how to do the alpha tagging and manual programming without much need for the manual. So far the scanner is great. Very fast and not much noise on it. A very very big improovment over my 12 year old Uniden Sportcat (which I will keep as a 2nd scanner, besides you dont let a full 800mhz band capable scanner out of your hands  even though there isnt anything to hear in the cell band anyways). The only critiques I have is of course the volume/sq combo is kind of a "WTF?" device. The volume control goes from quiet to loud without much range in between. (not the best for having just audible under the TV volume or conversation, but I'll get the feel for it). And the audio output seems weak. I like to hook my scanner up to my desktop radio AUX-IN as the voice audio is great, and I couldnt get it to be loud at all. However, the internal speaker is EXCELLENT, But I was looking forward to using the AUX-IN in my car's iPOD interface for the scanner, so hopefully it sound better there. Anyways, Very happy so far. Looking forward to participating more and giving more details on the PSR-300 as I'm not a serious radio geek, but appreciate and understand the technology and terminology, and rarely go more than 24 hours without running my scanner.
