All this Whistler talk has got me back into my PSR-800 (upgraded to WS-1080).

I don't really think it's easily doable, but any ideas of how I can control it wirelessly? And I don't need any "it can't be done" from Sweden as you're the same person that told me I couldn't do it with my Uniden's and they've been cruising along for 2 years now.

My response would be.. maybe.. but I have no idea how you would get there and who you would get the directions from. Loved the PSR 800 the day it was introduced and I put that CD in the computer.. really served me well.

It ended up being, my workhorse, in my car where I had a laptop mounted so as to hear the nx48 trunked system in my City, on DSD, long before RR knew about it.

I think you might have a shot if you get somebody to work with, who really knows. Your position is an advantage to make that possibly happen with your earned connections.

Hence my answer.. Maybe. Who knows what's locked away in any radio.😄

The PSR-800 can be controlled via its serial port (see the Control Demo software from GRE/Whistler if you can find it). So one could imagine some Bluetooth hacks to make that communication happen wirelessly instead of over the USB cable.

original announcement here:

I have the control demo. I need to know if it’s feasible/possible to control the PSR-800 wirelessly using it.

Except I specified wirelessly.
Yes, it can be done on the PC or on the Android phone/tablet. TRX Android Suite is a streaming client/server for many of the latest Whistler brand scanners. You must have access to a computer running the included Windows server application. The application suite allows you to listen to (and control) your desktop scanner via your Android device while you are across the house or across the world. Compatible with the TRX-1, TRX-2, WS-1080, WS-1088, WS-1095 & WS-1098. Check out this old but very good program ...

The PC portion is free, however there is a fee for the Android side.

I appreciate this. I'll look into it today.

What I may end up doing is using my WS-1095 instead and see about using a wireless RS-485 connection.

All you need is an RS-485 connection to the main unit and you can control it remotely. I suspect (but won't be held to it) that Whistler will release the protocol in the not-too-distant future.

I hope @visegrip72 is still around and contributing (hasn't been seen since August) but he is a really helpful person and the author of TRX Android Suite, he may be able to contribute and let us know if keys are still available for the Android side.

I went the easy, but more costly route. Found a mini PC on Amazon for $100, and use the above mentioned TRX android suite program (just the server side) to control my PSR-800 and WS-1095 via Chrome Remote Desktop. Audio is fed into my mini-mixer ( which is now out of inputs ☹️) to a BT transmitter to a speaker downstairs.

So far it’s working just fine and I don’t even need a mouse/monitor/keyboard connected to the mini PC after the initial setup.

And in my opinion, if I can get the Unidens to work over BT and setup a mini PC for the GRE- based ones and remote into it and get the audio for most of them into a mini mixer then to BT then ANYONE can do any or all of this. I ain’t a smart man.

Use remote control demo, and chrome remote desktop, over wifi or cellular it would be wireless.
