• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. This is not a question about getting the software. This is just a question about it.

My question is: I have v.4.80 and I didn’t update to v5.30.
Just wondering is there any important changes or much difference in v5.30 than what I am running now.

Just seeing if it’s worth getting the update or if it’s ok for me to stay with v4.80. I am pretty much just using it for 2 radios I have. It’s working perfectly the software, so just seeing if I should update or not.

I will have to find out, but some of the models are phased out from Gen 1 now.

Most of those revisions have to do with trunking. If you are not running on a trunked system, and you are not having any issues, it's usually best to stay with what you have if the firmware in your radio will allow it.

I've got a bunch of NX series radios on my trunked system, and I haven't seen any major changes in a long time.

Ok thanks. I can wait to see what he has to say.

And no I am not running any of my radios on a trunking system. They are just used for conventional channels.

Correct, the revisions are trunking related. YOU DONT HAVE to upgrade if you dont want to.
Otherwise you are pretty good to go at this point.

Ok thanks. Was just thinking on updating to that current version if there was maybe some new stuff in it that is not in the version I am using.

Will stick with the version I am using since the update only pretty much has to do with trunking.

Thanks
