To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Motorola Apx-6000/7000 radio, and the local Fire/Ems dept updated there radio's and started using Kenwood Nx-5200 model radio's. I notice My APX doesn't decode the MDC id from the Kenwood radios on the repeaters. The MDC id on the Kenwood's seem to have short burst Is there a setting in Kenwood CPS that will make MDC ID have little longer Burst, so APX radio can decode the ids?

That's not a pretime setting, Pause time makes it so if you let go and rekey within that amount of time it doesn't resend the ID. The setting to increase pretime is Data Transmit Modulation Delay Time, default is 400, which should be decodable on an APX
You are correct, I stand corrected.

Understand, but MDC ids don't decode on my apx radio's, when Kenwood's are on the repeater. Simplex no issues.

Hmmm, are you sure you have an MDC system setup for that channel? I have no idea how APX CPS works with assigning MDC profiles so I can't help too much there.

I have MDC system setup for each channel. I get Id decodes, from all the mobile radio's and the Motorola Portables radio's still being used. Just not on the new Kenwood nx-5200's. when switched to simplex(direct) channel i get MDC ids from kenwood radio's.

AT this point I'm Kinda done trying to figure it out, but i thought i ask one more time.

Make sure you're actually sending the ID. On each channel, check the "PTT ID (Analog)" field.

Do you actually hear the databurst over the radio from the Kenwoods?

Also make sure you're sending the MDC1200 with PL

Another thought I had, are you sure they're not using fleetsync? It has a shorter burst than MDC but sounds similar

If they are using Motorola, APX are not capable of Fleetsync.
Yeah, but he said it decodes in simplex I just remembered, so I'm thinking that the 400 ms pretime default on kenwoods may be 100 ms too short. Either that or it's fleetsync on some channels and mdc on others

Looking at settings related to MDC, everything looks to be as listed in the post above. I will change the pretime default to 500ms and see if that fixes the issue.

Just Update:
I did some testing earlier today, and its not issue with Kenwood or APX radio's with MDC id decoding. I tried Stand alone repeater in area and the APX decoded the Kenwood MDC ID. What I forget on are simulcast radio system, radio techs set up the repeaters to show MDC ID when i unkey my radio. What i mean is when i key and Unkey my radio on one of are channels, the repeater will decode and show my Id and i believe this is reason, so there no issues with APX radio's decoding Kenwood's mdc ids.
