To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Kenwood NX-5700 K Issue

Hello friends, I have in my hands two Kenwood NX-5700 K, VHF Models, and when I try to read them I get the following information:

" The data cannot be read from this transceiver because
the data include a funtion which cannot be configured whit this FPU "

Neither of them has a read/write password. I have the KPGD1 version 5.10 available and the radios have Firmware Version K 5.10.00.

And when I try to overwrite new information, I get this following information:

" Writting this data is not permited for this transceiver "

Any help from you my friends, I would appreciate it.

Thank You and good night

That FPU message is what pops up when an older software version tries to read a radio that has been written to by a newer software version, especially if there's been bug fixes and/or security patches between the updates. Updating your KPG-D1 to 5.20 should fix that.

Thanks for your answers friends.
Where can I get that version 5.20, of KPGD1, also the newest firmware, since I don't have it, to be able to test and finish this programming of these two NX-5700 radios...
I have had these radios for about 7 days, they belong to a client friend!
Greetings friends

Answer to POST #4 The same Dealer you got the 5.10 Software from.
Follow up question.
Have you used your KPGD1 or is this the 1st use?
Now I have version 5.20 of KPGD1 installed, but I still have the same result when I try to read or write!

I have the KPGD1 installed and using, since the first versions, I think since 1.0 or something like that, I have worked for many radios of this Kenwood series, also for the KPGD3 for the NX3000 series.

Any good ideas to overcome this?

Greetings friends

Can you verify that these 5700's are North American Versions and also not S Versions like the 5200S.
Also can you verify these 5700's come from a Kenwood Dealer and have you talked to that Dealer.

Try clicking on the product information icon, then Read Configuration

That should show you what you have.

Is it a railroad radio?

You have an idea on this issue?

I've got limited experience with the NX-5000 line. I've got a few NX-5900's on my trunked system, and our PD is using some NX-5700's on conventional.

Firmware/software mismatch is what I was going to suggest, but that's been covered.

without going too deep:

Is this radio on a trunking system and does the OP have a valid system key?

Is it a market mismatch issue? Is the radio market code the same as the software market code?

NX-5000S vs. the NX-5000 was a good question. That often gets overlooked.

This is all where a good dealer can help you out.

Regarding the real tool inside the KPGD1,: Transceiver information informs that the model is NX5700 K, 136-174 mhz, and with the normal firmware version 5.10.00, as shown to me, Radio status: Not inhibited ...

No, I don't think so, it's a railway radio,
is it possible? possible but not sure

At no time does it show me a warning that the production market is incorrect.

I have no idea what the problem is!

Trunking, it is possible but I have no idea...

It is an NX-5700 K, according to the information from the KPGD1 5.20 version , Firmware 5.10 version

What's next? I have no idea friend
Thank you for enlightening me with your opinions.

Regards

Is the radio programmed with any channels? What does the screen say?

This part makes us wonder:
" The data cannot be read from this transceiver because
the data include a funtion which cannot be configured whit this FPU "

What feature it is that the KPG-D1N can't handle?

I've never seen this come up before, but all the radios I'm using were purchased new.

At no time does it show me a warning that the production market is incorrect.

If it's a "K" market radio, that's North American market. Can't recall where it tells you what market the software is, my programming software is on a different laptop. Won't be in the shop until Friday.

Trunking, it is possible but I have no idea...

OK, so questions:

Did you purchase these radios used?
-or-
Do these radios belong to an agency and are you trying to modify programming?

It is an NX-5700 K, according to the information from the KPGD1 5.20 version , Firmware 5.10 version

So, like I said, K is N.A. market.
KPG-D1N version 5.20 is newer than the 5.10 firmware version in the radio, so that's not the issue.

If you purchased these used off e-Bay, maybe return them.

Since I have trunking system keys, I've never run across the key issue before, so not sure what it would error out as. Might be the cause, but I'd not be able to check that easily. Maybe someone else can.

Did you try to read the product info, not transceiver info. I suspect the radio has a feature enabled that your not licensed for. Maybe wide band.

Are you trying to read the current config to edit, or overwrite exisiting?

OP said these 7 Radios belong to a friend.
I have ask that the OP talk to the Dealer that sold the Radios OP does not answer this question.
The answer is talk to the dealer they can tell you.
When the I said the newest version was 5.20 OP ask where to get Software then comes up with the Software why did you not ask the dealer that you got the software from.
Back to the questions.
Are these Radios new?
Do these Radios have any programming in them.
If I had $10,000 plus in 7 Radios that the Software would not work I would be at the sellers door waiting.
If these Radios did not come from a Kenwood Brick and Mortar Dealer I would get my money back.

Hardware/ Software Requirements (General)
You must connect the transceiver to a PC using the KPG-36U/ KPG-36X/ KPG-46U/ KPG-46X programming cable.

For NX-5600H/ NX-5700H/ NX-5800H, the transceiver and a PC can also be connected by connecting the Type-B USB cable to the USB Micro Terminal. To use the USB Micro Terminal mounted on NX-5600H/ NX-5700H/ NX-5800H, the KPG-46X USB driver must be installed on a PC.

Read FPU Data Inhibition (Transceiver Settings > Optional Features > Optional Features 1 > Password > FPU Data File)
  • Transceiver Settings > Optional Features > Optional Features 1 > Password > FPU Data File

Read FPU Data Inhibition

Help_P25
Help_NXDN
Help_DMR
Help_Analog

Read FPU Data Inhibition allows you to restrict the transceiver functions by using the FPU.

If this function is enabled, the following transceiver functions cannot be used:

  • Clone Mode (Refer to Clone.)
  • Read Authentication Password (Refer to Password (Read Authorization Password), Password (Overwrite Password).)
  • Reading the log data (Refer to Read Log Data.)
If Read Log Data is executed, the log data can be read from the transceiver; however, the FPU data cannot be read.
Also, if this function is enabled, when the firmware is written to the transceiver, the FPU data is deleted after the firmware is updated if the firmware version to be updated is earlier than 5.00.00. If the firmware version to be updated is 5.00.00 or later, the FPU data is not deleted even if the firmware is updated.
