• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am unfamiliar with the the settings in the site roam and need to roam between three sites. Beacon is set to 6 second intervals. Attached is the current setting... Could someone better explain what the different settings do?

I have 2 Systems 1 5 Site and 1 7 Site with similar settings. With me it is best guess what the settings mean.
Drop out time loss of beacon time?
Dwell time how long it looks at sites for signal?
Quick site level this is minimum signal when checking for sites?
Standard level?
Site roaming resume the signal it will search for another site?

See if you can find the "NX-1000_Function_List_FUNC_K_E_C_M_X_Ver330.pdf". The function ref is often more useful than the formulaic language they use in the KPG help files. Pages 148-151 in that version are relevant.

I have installed several Site Roaming systems--both NXDN and DMR. Have left the subscriber units in default settings and have not had any problems.
The problem is, on Kenwood is they are simply left in the "off" position. From there, you change to your desired settings.

As in regular scan Dropout Delay and Dwell is the time site roam is suspended when receiving or transmitting.

If Quick Site Roam is used scan will stop and select the first channel that exceeds this level. In your screen shot Standard Site Roam is off, therefore roam will not happen until it sees a level better than this. Helps when there are many sites to scan. For 3 sites not much of an advantage.

Standard Site Roam is where the radio scans all sites and picks the best of those that have the threshold level or better. If you use both Quick and Standard then Quick must be a higher level than Standard.

Site Roam Resume is what it states. Must be lower than Quick and/or Standard Site roam.

The problem is, on Kenwood is they are simply left in the "off" position. From there, you change to your desired settings.

If all selections are off it will still roam by using squelch level only.

So the normal default values should work for most all circumstances. I would set them to these values first and try that for a while.
