• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Wouxun KG-UV9P Configuration

So I purchased a slightly used Wouxun KG-UV9P on Ebay. It is in great shape, but appears to have had the preprogrammed channels and frequencies erased. There are only two frequencies programed in the radio. I am guessing they did a reset on the radio. I contacted the seller, and they never took a backup of the radio. So, does anyone know if there is a place where I can get a factory config file for the KG-UV9P radio, so I can restore the original configuration with all the channels and frequencies?
Thank You.

Since frequencies vary greatly from area to area, you would have to get someone near you to help you program the HH. Not sure what frequencies you want or need. VFO should give you frequencies. If you are not sure what you are doing, don't transmit on a licensed frequency. But you might want to indicate the frequencies you need for your area.

When you get this radio from Better Safe Radio, it comes programed with a ton of receive only frequencies and channels, like racing frequencies, airline frequencies, international space station frequencies, different government frequencies, etc. They basically allow you to listen to traffic on the frequencies. Then you can scan through them. Those are the ones I am trying to get. Now that I said that, I am thinking that Better Safe Radio may be able to send me that config file if there is no easy way to get it. If not, then I guess I am out of luck.

Looks like Buy Two Way Radios sells the KG-UV9P right now.
On their website and page for that radio, you can click downloads, then you download KG-UV9P programming software. Hopefully this includes the channels you’re looking for.
**I didn’t download it myself, so not sure.**
