Kind of a rant, I guess...

For mobile stuff, the only antennas I use are the public safety antennas. There will be no hammy grade anything touching my cars. They perform well, are built well, and you can beat the hell out of them all day and they just keep working like brand new.
I only need two mobile antennas at most, so the cost isn't a big deterrent unless it's in the high three digits. But aren't commercial antennas usually single-band? I need one that covers at least 2m and 70cm.

No, there's a lot of multiband radios on the market now.

Larsen makes dual band antennas for both the amateur radio bands as well as the LMR bands.

I ran one of these for about 20 years, then gave it to my brother in law and he's been using it for about 10:

This one is quite popular:

More options:

I've been running a multband radio in my truck for the last couple of years. Radio covers VHF, UHF, 700 and 800MHz for my work stuff. I have 2 meter and 70 centimeter simplex and local repeaters programmed into it.

I've been running these antennas on my personal truck and work truck for about 3 years now. They are designed around the commercial/public safety spectrum, but they work just fine on 2 meters and 70cm.

All of those antennas have been run on the tops of 4x4 1 ton trucks, up and down overgrown access roads and taken a lot of tree branch hits. No issues with any of them.
