• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

KPG-D1N scan list randomization issues

I’m having an odd issue with D1N and scan with my NX-5000 mobiles. Both D1N and mobiles are at 5.10 right now.

The issue I’m experiencing is that on zones that are set for single scan, the check box selections for scan are being randomized in the software. I can check all 16 channels in 16 different zones, save the file, and later come back to it to find only random channels selected for scan. Doesn’t affect every zone or every time, just randomly, and this is working from saved files not reading from the radio.

I do have a couple of zones set up to use an assigned scan list to scan across zones and those are not affected by this. I don’t want to change everything over to scan lists as it is set up the way I need it to work.

Anyone experienced this?

Questions from kenwood to you:

I have not heard of this before. I don’t see any mention of it in the version update history either.

How often does it occur? Every time you save or 1 out of 10 (less/more)?

If it happens often it would be interesting to make a new data file from scratch (simple one) with current version D1N and see if it happens. Wonder if it is something going corrupt with old data files made from old versions or what.

If you have a sample data file for us to look at that would be a good start, also if you can send a screen shot of what data is being changed it would make it quicker for us to start looking at the issue accurately.

Or let me know if this is what is happening:

Scan set to Single:

I just saved this file and opened again (once) and the checked/unchecked boxes remained the same.

I will try a few more times through the day and let you know if anything happens.

If you have some better instructions how to duplicate let me know.

I wonder if it has something to do with data files generated from early versions of D1N and may not happen with files made or imported with later version .. just a guess.

If you have a particular “problematic” file that seems to happen often send it to me (Kenwood)
*email it to me and I can forward it for you.

I opened up D1N this evening to look at my VHF file and noticed multiple examples of this happening, two examples are pictured below.

Scan.jpg
As you can see above, the problematic field is the "Scan Add" checkbox. All of these were and should be checked, but channels 8-10 and 12 are not.

Scan2.jpg
In this screenshot, all of the channels in green should have scan add checked, and all of the channels in red should not be checked.

To reiterate, this is completely random. In 60+ zones I may find 5 that are not as they should be, fix them, and those seem to hold for at least a while.

How close are you to the 1024-channel limit and is the count actually correct? Or do you have the 4000-channel license? I've seen problems with a different radio and software when near the channel limit. Typical edge-case problem.
