Anyone know who these unit numbers are designated for? I hear them handling what seems to be just run of the mill traffic. But I did once hear a supervisor tell the dispatcher to wait wait until a 10 hundred unit comes 10-8. Just curious.
Thanks for any replies.

10XX units are normal Troopers. Nothing special about them. I've known a few of them personally and they got those numbers right out of the Academy.

1XX are Sargeants and above. When a Trooper is promoted, they get a new number in that range.

I believe 2 digit numbers are Captains and above, but I won't swear to it.

I don't know about 11XX units

14XX units are Radio Maintenance techs.

In that context here's my guess. They got a call about something that wasn't urgent and there were no available units reasonably close to handle it. So the dispatcher was told to hold the call and give it to a unit scheduled to go on duty at 10:00 AM.

Going "10-8" means going on duty. 10 hundred is KSP talk for 10:00 AM.

Unit numbers in the 1,000 and 1,100 series are your basic road troopers or could also be detectives. I'm thinking that a trooper is assigned a unit number that he or she keeps while with KSP unless they are promoted to sergeant, lieutenant etc. A dispatcher told me a long time ago, any number below 50 is a high ranking person.

OK ,That makes sense. It never occured to me they were talking about the time instead of unit numbers. Thanks.
