I'm picking up the KSP on 460.18750 on my 2096. That's the KSP Post 16, in Henderson County. For those who are interested, You will need to program the frequency in the FM mode, and the Digital Scanner will do the rest. You must have a Digital Scanner.

I listen to the Henderson & Madisonville Posts in Evansville with a Pro-2096 & a BCD996T.
I can pull in Madisonville from the Morganfield tower on 460.1250. Sometimes get it on Sacramento tower on 460.0375. Also get Henderson on 460.2000 when they switch to A.
Can't seem to follow Madisonville on A channel to well up here. Morganfield A channel 453.2375 is the same freq Warrick County uses, but sometimes can hear on 453.8125 on Sacramento tower.

KSP In Western, KY

I'm only picking up KSP on 460.18750. When I programmed in the frequencies you mentioned, I only got noise. I guess you are in a better location. Maybe I need an outside Antenna! Thanks!

From here in Union County and my work place in Henderson here is what I listen to for KSP in Henderson and Madisonville.

460.18750 KSP - Henderson (16) Henderson Co B
460.20000 KSP - Henderson (16) Henderson Co A
460.32500 KSP - Henderson (16) Union Co B
453.95000 KSP - Henderson (16) Union Co A

460.12500 KSP - Madisonville (2) Union Co B
453.23750 KSP - Madisonville (2) Union Co A

I do not hear anything from the Crittenden County towers, but then I am only using the rubber duck on my Pro 96

Dear kd4bas,

Thanks for the info. Since my last response to the other listener, I am now listening to those same frequencies. However, sometimes it sounds like they are talking under water, and other times they come in clear. Are you experiencing the same on your Pro-96? In addition, sometimes I get a loud ugly sounding noise. I'm wondering if anyone else is hearing this noise also? Thanks again!

It sounds like you are just having a reception issue. The muffled voice is usually the trooper not getting out to the repeater very well and the transmission will be broken or the decoder will sound robotic as they call it. A load buzzing noise usually means the scanner did not decode the signal properly. There are three firmware versions for the 96 and the 2096. The original firmware version works best for me for KSP. I tried the newer firmware updates that were suppose to help digital reception, but they did the opposite for me so I changed back. What you are describing is typical if you are moving around alot with a hand held scanner with a small rubber duck antenna. If you listen at home alot you might want to try an outside antenna or maybe a preamp.

You are correct, I am having the same issues, I have even did the DSP 1.4 update from Radio Shack, but the reception seemed like it was worse so I went back to 1.2 or 1.3 (can't remember  )

Even dispatch and the troopers have commented on "hearing the waterfall or the spring" sounds, not sure what KSP is planning to do to resolve the issue(s)

Funny Sounds!

Hey I'd like to thank you guys for the info. I think I will go back to the 1.3 version. I heard someone else say the same thing, that they did better before they did the upgrade. Thanks again, and happy Holidays!

Early Pro-96's shipped with v1.2 and later 1.3 came out, then 1.4 My 2096 came with 1.3 and I was having a problem, so I tried 1.4 with no better results, so I tried 1.2 and it has worked perfectly ever since.Go figure...........

Same solution, different route.... when the 1.3 and 1.4 updates were issued I did both as I thought i should, reverted to 1.2 because KSP sounded terrible... a friend has a 96 that shipped with 1.4, he reverted to 1.2 when he had problems and his sounds like a bell as well....

You should be able to hear something.... try to open the squelch more and see if that helps.... if you are using the original duck (that shipped with the radio that is part of the problem-mine did poorly on anything out of the 150-160 meg range) you might consider replacing it with a more able antenna.... I have a number of conventional freqs within range of the KSP freqs I monitor and some of them I have set to MOT rather than FM so I don't receive the non-KSP transmissions....

When I had my Pro-96, I likewise found that v1.2 did seem to behave better; there's been reports on various Pro-96 forums that v1.2 of the firmware tends to have better performance in fringe areas (I live in metro Louisville, and noticed my worse problems were with trying to pick up the Shelbyville repeaters for KSP).

Interestingly, the GRE PSR-500 does *not* seem to behave badly; the PSR-500 is a more sensitive receiver than the Pro-96 (in fact, I'd say it is quite possibly the most sensitive radio I have ever owned), though, so that may explain much of the difference there.

Dear Windigofer,

Thanks for your input! I have the Pro-2096, and since I've gone back to the 1.3, it does a little better than it did with the 1.4. However, I'm still getting the loud buzzing sound. I don't know how to get back to the 1.2. Perhaps someone can tell me how to get the 1.2. I am considering getting the Pro-96, and keeping my 2096. Thanks again!

v1.2

Thanks Spooney! I saw 3 of them on that page, however, one of them was for Pro-96 only. The other two were for both 96 & 2096. So I assume that the 96 was 1.2? Will 96 work on 2096? Thanks again!

I'm curious if you guy's can hear the Indiana Hoosier Project Safe-T calls from either the Henderson tower or the Mt Vernon, IN tower?? Henderson's C/C is 868.5500 and Mt. Vernon's is 867.4625 If you haven't tried they are MOT P25 & some analog on the same system . Let me know if you can hear anything.

I'm not local to that part of KY, but I would be surprised if someone in Henderson couldn't hear SAFE-T; we pick it up pretty well here in the Louisville metro area from the Floyd Knobs sites.

The antenna for the Henderson site is pointed more to the north and I do not hear it unless I an usually north of the twin bridges into Indiana, I get the Huesler tower strong and can receive it more than I can receive the towers in Vanderburgh or Warrick counties.

The Henderson site is on Wolf Hills where four TV stations broadcast from. I think I heard it is on WFIE's tower which is farther north than channels 44 , 63 , and 25. Also, Henderson City / County dispatches off channel 25's tower. I can see how it would be difficult to receive a good signal to the south of that location. I receive better reception off KSP's Henderson Post transmitter than I do the Reed tower even though it is closer in miles, but it is next to KET tower which I think interferes.
