Have heard a rumor that Kentucky Motor Vehicle Enforcement might be moving from 44.6200 to the old KSP State frequency of 453.3000.

Anyone monitoring this "old" frequency?

Can anyone confirm this switch?

with apologies....

453.3000 is still in use by ksp.... it is a car-to-car freq (usually analog) and is also used by the air folks (frequently in digital)..... but will ask around and see if anyone knows for sure....

Some KVE units ARE using 453.300 to contact TOC in Frankfort. ABC, Horse Park Police and State Fire Marshals office have used this frequency for years, but I think this is new for KVE since they went under the Justice Cabinet.
I heard Techs testing the system alot today, so they must be working out some kinks.

INFO I PICKED UP THIS MORNING INDICATES THAT KY MOTOR VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT WILL BE ON 453.300 (PL162.2) ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH BEGINNING IN JANUARY 2005.... STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THE KSP FOLKS WILL ALSO HAVE THAT FREQ IN THEIR MENU OF FREQS AS WELL, IN THE PAST I HAVE HEARD TROOPERS USE THIS IN ANALOG AS CAR-TO-CAR AND IN DIGITAL FROM THE VARIOUS AIRCRAFT.....

FORGOT TO ASK WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE LOW BAND STUFF THEY HAVE AND WHO, IF ANYONE, WILL TAKE IT OVER....

Re: KY MVE Moving To UHF

Got a report out of central Kentucky that they are simulcasting (for the time being) 44.6200 on 453.3000.

Looks like the end of VHF Low Band in Kentucky (at least for state agencies).

The low band frequency is still being simulcast on the state frequency. I met with a KVE officer last week and all he had was the low band radio. I'd say the simulcast will continue untill all officers receive the UHF mobiles.

MVE and UHF

"KY MOTOR VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT WILL BE ON 453.300 (PL162.2) ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH BEGINNING IN JANUARY 2005"???

They are using this freq now for the roadside help van program as well as the old low band links to Frankfort. The plan is to move MVE from lowband to UHF in the near future. And yes it is analog FM. Don't know what KSP has to say about this.

i haven't heard much ksp traffic on 453.30000 in a few months...the high-band freq is more dependable than the low-band freq (44.62000) and there is a repeater system in place that literally covers the commonwealth from left to right and top to bottom.... the "SAFE" van (roving motorist assistance van) operator must call in his location and then have law enforcement run a check on the vehicle's plate... in addition to the standard c.b. tx they also talk to the district highway department office and the the motor vehicle enforcement folks (who run the plate checks)... ksp still has a number of "local" freqs they can use--all on the high-vhf band--as tac freqs and one as a vehicle repeater. these, of course, are in addition to the various post freqs that are programmed into their radios...

Since the start of this post I have been listening for MVE on 453.300. So far there has been no activity. I live in east KY, Morgan Co., and am still hearing a lot of activity on 44.62.
