Unit on structure fire requested “Code D”.

What is Code D and rest of alphabetic codes?

The only two I know are: Code-R, which is usually used in conjunction with dispatching move-ups and instructing them to use lights and sirens due to a large incident; and Code-I, which I haven't heard in a while, but it means a request to dispatch a PIO, Public Information Office, to a large or significant incident. Interestingly, I happened to be watching an old episode of Emergency yesterday where Gage and DeSoto were being shot at during a rescue. Captain Stanley advised "L.A" of the situation and requested a "Code-L", which meant he needed law enforcement at scene. I have to say, I've never heard that one. The on-scene captain usually just "Requests Sheriff".

Thank you both Engine104 & Whiskey3JMC for the codes. The Code D definition fits in with what I was hearing.

Here in Ventura county they "request a cause investigator".

A couple off the top of my head. I am not sure if these are still used.

Code I - Firefighter injury
Code A - Arson Investigator (not sure if changed to Code D or this is something different)
Code F - Fatality
Code R - Respond lights and sirens
Non Code R - Respond without lights and siren

Right.. I remember hearing that on LAFD frequencies.

Still commonly used here and there. Stringer or camera shows up, "Dispatch fyi we have code 20 on scene" etc.

A- Arson
D- Determination of cause
F- Fatality
N- Media Notification
