Several social media feeds were showing people counter acting LAPD carrying apx6000s programmed pretty much identical to line up used. One feed a Sgt said they are well aware and it'll be addressed in future per their command to resolve that issue. A streamer asked one where he got it he said eBay there is a guy selling and programming them. The Sgt said they are also aware of that. Wonder that resolve comment could be. Hmmm. Get the sand and tissues ready.

I am surprised that LAPD tactical channels are still unencrypted. Even SWAT runs unencrypted. I have no issues if you want to carry around APXs. I have done it when I have heard things near me and my local division actually thanked me for helping them on a few things in the neighborhood. However I don’t use it to interfere or to provide tactical information. Ultimately once LAPD works out their trunked transition in a few years, we will likely see encryption more widely used if they can do it without the city council pushing back on transparency reasons.

Using a radio during a crime is a separate crime in itself. There were people painting graffiti on city hall, doing street takeovers, destroying property, etc. If our local law enforcement would arrest the criminals and prosecutors would do their jobs and add more charges for using a radio during a crime maybe it would be less of a problem.

Along those lines, remember the residential 459 teams that were using wi-fi jammers to disable surveillance cameras? Last year I messaged the LAPD investigators involved in one of the cases and advised them that RF jamming itself was a federal crime and they may want to have their legal liaison consult with either the FCC or US Attorney's office. Didn't even get the courtesy of a reply.

Was this before Gascon was booted out?

Oh but sir, these are just people who have been disenfranchised from society and are forced to fend for themselves by skimming a little off the well to do. It’s not their fault and the well to do don’t need all those expensive possessions. How will they feed their children if we lock them up? You were a child at some point, do you deserve to have your parents incarcerated and be forced to grow up without them? You see, these poor people are just looking to feed their children are actually the victims and the wealthy who own these houses full of jewelry, guns and treasures are the real problem. Wouldn’t society be better off if…..

Oh, sorry, getting a little off track here. Aaaa, wouldn’t it be great if LAPD found any of those APX6000 radios with active cop transmit channels programmed?

Wouldn't that be great? Even better if the system logged transmissions with a bogus radio EIN!

Last thing Im doing is helping the police. Let them figure stuff out on their own.

Seems the only time they wanted to go federal was when Gascon was too soft on people who shot police etc... Then magically the LAPD /LASD would turn over to feds.

Those Protesters are getting paid by NGO's so they don't need to work real job, they get money by NGO's to buy those radio's. And yes, using a radio/scanner during a crime, is crime and if those radio's were programmed to tx on LAPD channel's that also a crime and the person programming those radio's can also get in some deep trouble. I heard few years back, the protesters were using beofeng radio's, to tx on NYPD channel's, and that likely was the reason NYPD encrypted 90% of there channel's. If and when LAPD switches to trunked system, i would see all there Tac and SWAT channels going encrypted.

I am surprised most of them aren't shy about blasting the audio in front of lapd. Few you could tell could care less others you could tell were bothered by it. Between that and new live feeds cop watching to play by play of real time scenes I'm honestly surprised they haven't at minimum addressed it with tacs being secure. Even with ADP being used I'm sure they have the capability bare bones it would be a partial solution better over nothing. But wouldn't surprise me if they got mass ordered specific flash sets for themselves like they did with modat days.

I apparently missed the window to edit my last comment.. Anyway, Baofeng's don't transmit on 506-507 Mhz. They only transmit on 2m and 70cm ham bands, so nope.

Inevitably I see it happening sooner rather than later. With California requirements and federal on sensitive information and how it is passed it's only pheasable anymore to secure a system entirely to do away with any legality issues, user error. This is why many are securing PD, fire, public works, dog catcher and so on. Yeah one could use a mdt, or cell phone but reality is most in real time don't have the convenience to tell someone to stop let me text or call XYZ. All it takes is the information to be shared down line over air from one to be issue. Most don't want to test the waters with it and are resolving a issue before it arrives.

I believe there is a modification for them to able to, including the ones that come out of box with some VHF blocked one can easily modify it with know how to be able to transmit. At least that is what I recall reading.
