Lake Michigan plane crash ...

Lots of activity from the Coast Guard during search and recovery efforts off the coast of Milwaukee the past two days. They are camped out on channel 23a with helo's and boats along with Milwaukee County Sherriff boats. Sounds like they will be active the rest of the week.

I hear tidbits here in MI from the Grand Haven CG station. Mostly weak but readable. I wish a temp inversion duct would open...

Due to the weather, they didn't even get the boats out today. I would anticipate lots of activity the next few days since they haven't found the main wreckage yet.

They said there was some guy that was awaiting an organ transplant in a hospital, and the organ he was supposed to recieve was on that flight. That's gotta bite the big one..

I can't remember what organ the news said he needed though. Something like a kidney or liver maybe? I dunno..

It was a lung (single I think). No real pics to be had yet. Just a few pieces have been recovered, mostly what was washed ashore. The plane hit the water at an estimated 190 mph. I did hear one of the Coast Guard choppers find a wheel/tire floating yesterday. Early this morning, one of the C.G. dive boats was chasing fishing vessels out of the area. In the first 8 hours after the crash I picked up 3 hours of audio with ScanRec. Today it's only 30 mins of audio so far with ScanRec software for 9 hours of recording time, most of it fishing or sailing craft, although right now, I hear a chopper doing a search pattern. Pretty quiet day overall.

It was an emergency medical services flight carrying a six member organ transplant team and their cargo of donor organs.

Cessna Citation, owned by Southfield, Mich.-based Toy Air Inc. The flight crew members worked for Marlin Air Inc., based at Willow Run Airport.

I didn't get a chance to listen today. According to the news, they are still diving daily though.
