An early-morning double fatal crash has closed a major Polk County road.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the traffic crash has closed U.S. Highway 27 near Presidents Drive, just south of Warner University, in Lake Wales.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 27 are shut down.
Deputies said a northbound semi truck crossed into the southbound lanes, hitting and killing a person on a motorcycle.
That crash caused a chain reaction of additional crashes, involving eight more vehicles and killing another person. Several injured people were taken to area hospitals.
The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours. Drivers should consider the roadway closed for the morning, according to Real Time Traffic Expert Chuck Henson.
