I've never programmed LAPD before. However, from looking at the database, all of the talkgroups appear to be individual repeaters. Am I reading it right? If so, they aren't trunked? Each of the individual talkgroups are a separate repeater?
Where do you see any talkgroups in the database for LAPD?

Motorola P25 Conventional, Phase 1 is FDMA trunking
Please help me with this. Motorola P25 conventional is just that. A conventional repeater. It can't be both. It is either conventional or it is trunked. Did you mean to put a period in between conventional and phase one and accidentally put a comma? I looked this up because I'm not hearing much from LAPD. Are you saying that they have changed? As you know better than I do, they are moving to LA-RICS with LASD and the entire county. I have talked with officers that I previously worked with that are still on the job and they tell me there have been no changes. But they tell me changes are coming.

There should have been a .

LAPD is not moving to LA-RICS. They are working on their own trunked phase II system, but last I heard it was at least two years out.

For now, the channels in the database are all still active. They are still on UHF, P25 Conventional.

Thank you for clarifying that. There are still people in this subgroup stating that LAPD is P25 conventional Phase 1. From what I have learned over the last year phase 1 or phase 2 are both trunking system related. FDMA is frequency division multiple access. Phase 2 is TDMA which is time division multiple access. Neither one relates to conventional. Conventional is a standalone repeater. I would say that I'm looking forward to LAPD going to trunking whether they build their own system or otherwise. But I'm afraid of what might come from it. Looking at LA-RICS and ICI damn near everybody in the county is locked out because of encryption.

I can almost guarantee LAPD will move at the very least all tactical and SWAT channels encrypted. Dispatch, I have a feeling city council may push back on if they can. Ultimately unless that non-dispatch encryption bill comes back from the dead, it’s here to stay for most agencies.

Although not necessary, you can program the LAPD frequencies as one frequency trunk (OFT) and it will give you radio ID's

Also, if you have the SDS100, you can program one of the lines in the Simple Display mode on conventional frequencies to display the Unit ID without having to program OFT mode. Of coruse, the Advanced Display will also show the Unit ID.
