No. He circled to approach to land runway 33 at DCA, and the VH-60 was transitioning up the Potomac and collided with the CRJ. The VH-60 was told to maintain visual separation from the CRJ by DCA tower.

Can someone maybe get a DC Fire feed up? The only other way to listen to the DC Fire department right now is on openmhz, and they are swamped with the load.

submit an application and I’ll approve it immediate. Same with Arlington Fire and PG County…

I believe MWCOG defined a marine interop capability for its members. If so, it *might* be available on Montgomery's TRS - 5250 and 5255; PG 9101 and 9103, and Charles 17568 and 17600. Also, Maryland FIRST tacs might be in use.

ATC audio with PAT-25's communications with DCA Tower on the discrete Helo to Tower frequency. Note that you cannot hear Blue Streak 5342 because they are on the regular Tower Frequency.

The helos and the jets were on separate frequencies but with the same tower controller.

https://archives.broadcastify.com/44114/20250129/202501292000-281903-44114.mp3

  • At 5:41 mark 5342 is given instructions for circling to 33.
  • At 6:45 mark PAT-25 reports Memorial
  • At 7:06 mark tower gives PAT-25 traffic advisory about 5342 and PAT-25 reports traffic in sight and requests visual separation
  • At 8:12 mark tower asks PAT-25 if they have the CRJ in sight. PAT-25 again reports traffic in sight and again requests visual separation.
  • At 8:28 mark, crash occurs, exclamations, go arounds issued

I don't understand how something like this could have happened. The helicopter seemed to have the plane in sight. How can you have visual on something and just fly right into it?

I look forward to the NTSB conclusion on this and my condolences to all those involved.

The quick, early report on the blancolirio YouTube channel indicates that PAT25 was told to maintain vis-sep and fly behind the CRJ.

They probably had the wrong traffic in sight.
