FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) ― Larimer County firefighters are standing by the side of a co-worker as his son fights for his life at Children's Hospital.

Nicholas Greenwood, 6, fell off a trailer being towed by a pick-up truck driven by his father last Sunday. The boy was hit and left with a severe brain injury.

Nicholas remains in critical condition a week later.

His father bill is a firefighter with Poudre Fire Authority.

Since the accident, fellow firefighters have been at Children's Hospital every day to help the family and their four other children.

"To come out of Nicholas' room and we're emotional and wearing down and come out with tears in our eyes and if the guys see we need to cry more then they're going to cry with us," said Bill Greenwood.

The Poudre Fire Authority is planning to host a fundraiser for the family on May 28 in Fort Collins.
