SUBJECT: Overturned Canoe
Larimer County Sheriff's Office received a call at 2:04 P.M. of an overturned canoe on Dowdy Lake in the Red Feather Lakes area. Larimer County Sheriff's Deputies, Larimer County Dive Team, fire departments from Red Feather and Glacierview as well as an ambulance from Poudre Valley Hospital and Air Life out of Greeley all responded to the scene.
Investigation revealed that two adult males and one juvenile (10-years of age) were in a canoe on Dowdy Lake when it overturned causing the three occupants to fall into the water. Another boater on the lake observed the three subjects and responded to help. The boater was able to get one of the adult males and the juvenile out of the water and into his boat. The other adult male went under the water and the boater was unable to find him. The 10-year old juvenile was wearing a life jacket, neither adult had a life jacket on.
Larimer County Dive Team is now calling it a recovery effort in the Northwest area of the lake. The victim has been missing for approximately 2-hours.
The adult male that was rescued by the boater was checked out by paramedics and released. The 10-year old boy was taken by ambulance to Poudre Valley Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Investigation also revealed that the two adult males are brothers, and the 10-year old boy is the son of one of the brothers. At this time it is unknown where the family is from.
