• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Well, environment makes a difference. Here in LaLa Land I’m on a five site P25 repeater system daily. The radio for that is my primary and takes up most of the room. The CB, although not any kind of flamethrower, will still let me hear and be heard within a few miles. The free part was kinda nice! I’ll play with it and if I end up liking it I’ll probably pony up for a radio with NRC, but as it’s kind of a side line it’s not a priority. Now, as far at the house radio goes, I’m looking very seriously at the QT80 or the AT6666. The small size would be nice, but the ease of having switches is a plus. I’m leaning toward the QT80 as a dedicated radio on that A99.

NRC =

Ears so good that it needs a bit of wattage just to be able speak as far as it can hear.

Clarity is King!!

Flamethrower not needed.

Nice! Probably be a few months before it shows up in stores. Maybe one will find its way into my “slap in” kit. I have another road trip coming up in July. Be on the road for about six days, so that should be a good test.

There’s a new version of Bill w/NRC.

BILL III FCC

AM/FM/WX

.
Radioddity CS-47 also has NRC and after it is modified it has 8 watts AM and 15 watts FM ... you can place it under the seat and buy a 5 foot long Cat 6 RJ45 extension cable and hang the mic on the dash... easiest install known to man!

A PRESIDENT isn’t a re-badge (to keep it clear) unlike ANYTONE and RadioOddity.

President makes some GOOD stuff..... so I am not picking on it.... but they also keep the legal limit on power.... you can get a 600 channel 8 watt AM 15 watt FM Radioddity CS-47 with NRC for $75 bucks! ....... Bands A B C D E F G H I J K L 12 bands times 40 and then that's AM and then do it again on FM.... lot of channels for when you get your ham license.

...and a 600 channel, 10 watt dead key, 20 watt peak Radioddity 606 Pro with NRC for $69.00 ....

the president Bill is $129 bucks and you get 40 channels and 4 watts and you still have to mount it someplace you can see it..... nice radio don't get me wrong... but the CS-47 can go under the seat all you have to do is hang the mic.... let me see President compete with that.

I Guess I should try to buy quality and not get the most bang for the buck

“ . . I guess I should choose quality ahead of a focus on price.”

Features are great. Reliability is King.

The lesser-quality inoperative radio that needs repair or replace (got ignored), but the rest of the rig was top-notch can be a day for regret.

A storm chaser. A girl. One of the saddest photos of which I know.

Radio is a chance. One doesn’t have to be out on the Plains for the need to arise. One does need to make some study of weather and what steps to take.

The $48 CB is like one-time-use cheap tools from Harbor Freight. Okay for a single trip.

An NMO34 antenna system + 13.8V DC is the start point . . as any radio plugged-in will be at its best.
