Hello all, I am in the process of setting up my shack and obtained a nice used Icom 726 rig. I am new to the Icom 726.
As I scan through the HF bands, I run across a lot of frequencies where there's only a solid/steady tone that never changes. I don't understand what these signals are. Is this normal? If so, what generates those steady tone/signals? Can someone enlighten me? I do pick voice chatter on some frequencies on some bands. I just want to make sure that my rig is working ok. Any guidance would be very much appreciated. One person recently mentioned that I am hearing "Birdies" so I looked that up. However, it just seems that I hear this on way too many frequencies.
I have good SWR using a ladder fed Dipole antenna with an MFJ ATU connected using the balanced antenna terminals. I just want to make sure there's nothing possibly wrong with my Icom.
