Has anyone changed the display backlight or colors of the lighting to their BC796D or BC780XLT?

Is it as simple as changing out LEDs?

I am at work, bored out of my mind and started playing with Paint Shop Pro... Did an image of one possible combination...

Thought it might be interesting to actually try to accomplish this!

I guess my biggest concern is that they are maybe using these tiny little surface mounted lamps instead of an LED or bulb..

Or maybe as simple as changing the colored cover on the bulb?

Can anyone who has been inside the unit say accurately?

If they are bulbs, I would venture to say then that it's as simple as changing the color of the cover on them... I can get those in pretty much any color I want..

Now the 2nd question - how easy would it be to segment out the different sections of the keypad and the backlight?

They are small chip LEDs. Look in the display to the side closely and you can see them. As long as they aren't molded into the plastic light pipe/diffuser behind the display you should be able to order others in the same package.

Ugh - what a pain ... My soldering skills aren't nearly good enough to even try to do that!
