Are anyone else's 996 screens also yellowed-looking and dimmer? I look at photos and videos of other 996s, and they seem to have a brighter screen, no color shifting outside of just how the light refracts on the lens. But on my 996, the colors are slightly yellowed and dim. I don't remember if it looked that way when I first got it or around this year. It's almost 2 years old, why is it like this? And what can I do about it?

My 996P2 is 9 years old and I don't see any yellowing but I would say the display is not as sharp as it used to be. I've messed around with color, brightness, and contrast settings but it it still looks a little "washed out".

Yes, I have seen a couple of 996P2's as well as one of my own exhibit a "less color and dimmer" backlight as well as my 260DN, although it isn't quite as noticeable. My older 996XT's and 396XT's all look as good as they were new. Kind of annoying, these are all used in homes and not subject to wild temperature changes or abuse etc.

Huh.. I wonder why it affects newer models but not the older ones.

I have a 996P2 that I bought around during Covid/George Floyd protest. I'm experiencing the same with the LEDs. Blue is pretty unusable.

That's another thing I noticed too: the blue LED is pretty dark. I never understood why anyone would want to use it in that way. I suppose it's not normal at all, considering all the videos and pictures of 996xts/p2s I've reviewed. And after owning a 396xt, I realized it's not just a lens effect, that's how it's supposed to be.

Mine didn't start off that way. There is a thread already about this I remember seeing awhile back, I'm going to try and find it. From what I remember it was something about one of the backlight LEDs going bad. You can send it in to Uniden and have it repaired under flat rate if the unit is not under warranty.
