Is Lewis County, Kentucky using the radio frequency of 151.070 MHz (PL 162.2) for fire dispatch ???

Getting some radio traffic from Lewis County / Vanceburg on that frequency of some fire departments working on a railroad car full of scrap metal on fire near Kentucky Route 8 somewhere near Vanceburg. The fire department working the fire is using Station 600 ID's. They are also requesting a tanker from nearby Greenup County.

The only license I see for 151.070 MHz in Lewis County is WQLY 583 Firebrick Vol. Fire Dept. Are they using that frequency and call sign now for a countywide fire dispatch now ???

I don't know the exact frequency because I never dealt with that. At one time I was affiliated with that department. Station 600 is Firebrick FD. Out of Firebrick KY just inside Lewis Co on Route 8 between the Greenup co line and somewhere before Quincy where Garrison FDs district picks up. They used to also have coverage in Greenup co. Their fire district split between both counties. So it made a unique situation. St #600 in Lewis Co and St.25 in Greenup Co. They no longer have their Greenup area as it has been ceded to nearby Malonton #30. So they only operate solely as a Lewis Co Department in the Firebrick area as St# 600.

I never messed with scanner Freqs. I had my issued radio and a dispatch texting alert system when I was on. But probably what you heard was their Own repeater that they installed. It was always hard to hit Vanceburg on the Lewis Co. Fire repeater in that area so they had installed the FIREBRICK repeater themselves and licensed it to be able to talk to Lewis Co dispatch easier. So that repeater has always to my knowledge been used by only the Firebrick Fire department and not as a county wide area. Firebrick could use the county wide if they could get through, but installed their own because that area had a hard time getting thru on the county wide channel. (When they used to have Greenup coverage they operated as St 25 on Greenup Co. FIRE F3 CHANNEL Don't know the scanner Freqs)

I know nothing about the frequency they’re using, but I’m pleasantly surprised to see some Lewis County folks on here.

I grew up in Olive Hill and my mom is from Camp Dix, so I spent a lot of time in LC as a kid.

Very off topic, but is Kenny’s still open? I used to love that place.

Honestly I'm not sure, I don't get down to Vanceburg much, honestly I've stayed just on the Greenup side of the line lately, have t ventured much into Lewis Co lately. I just recently crossed back over to inquire about seeing if I could come back active on the FD, and was planning on getting a scanner and looking on programming it so if I did go back my significant other could monitor the channels so they didn't worry, and I Stumbled across this post. And since I have personal insight to know this mysterious frequency was likely the Firebrick Repeater since he referenced 600 units, and I vaguely remember hearing in the news about the rail car, I think it traveled into Greenup Co and South Shore FD ended up mutual aiding on it. I just remember reading the news blurb about it. I don't know why Radio Reference doesn't have it listed on the database, you can look up their license though. But they have their own repeater separate from the Lewis County Fire repeater because in the holler they can't talk to Vanceburg otherwise the County Fire repeater is very hit or miss. But yeah I'm sorry I'm not sure what's open in Vanceburg or not.

Small world though

I'm in Lewis county, just joined the forum. I also just got my Ham license so I'm trying learn about the local repeaters and EMS and police channels.

I've programmed the Vanceburg repeater (AE4SK) into my radio, and haven't been able to get a response on it. Was wondering if anyone knows about this repeater and to whether it's still in operation.

Regarding Kenny's in Vanceburg, we were there about 15 years ago before we got married (my wife is from here). Haven't been there since, but I don't think it's still in business.

Not exactly the place to ask on a topic about public safety.. but I'll reach out to a couple people and see what's up with the Vanceburg machine. I can't recall the last time I tried to reach it. Ron doesn't have any info online and judging off his age, it may be off air.
