does anyone think that lifestar center will ever opterate on the CLMRS or do you think they will continue to dispatch and operate on 155.850? I know all of the Helicopters have CLRMS radio onboard for local FD and PD communications I am not sure if i have the VHF freq right, but do you guys think they will stay on VHF?

IMHO Yes as it has farther coverage. Keep in mind, they do transport out of CLMRS airspace and VHF would likely still work, when hovering over Boston as well as other alternatives they have access to (CDPD, Air Cards, Satphones)

Worcester LF is heard patched from the VHF into the Mass State Trunk, Boston MF uses a UHF Simplex

I think they'll keep the 155.385, it covers incredibly well from the top of box mountain to wherever the helicopter is up in the air, I don't think they have any reason to use clmrN, and i haven't heard of them using it at all currently.

if they do ground services it may become worthwhile to add CLMRN, only time will tell if they join CLMRN

As they do not have radios onboard capable of going on the trunked system, you are almost certainly hearing them patched into it. It is a possibility in the future though, I believe discussions are ongoing.
Typically, when a medivac flies into another center's coverage area, they are followed by that dispatch center if they fly beyond the range of their home radio system. Depending how high they fly, coverage for the VHF is pretty good, they can probably out fly their license.

They have techsonic radios which are capable of phase 2 trunking, however I'm not sure if they are configured as such. Like anything else, it's an additional feature $$$

$$$ drives everything these days, its cold reality why stuff like improving communications takes so long, I got into scanning in the early 90s, and at that time the CSP did have licenses and allocated freqs for the original CSP trunking system, the CSP began running dual mode around 2000 and I think they were fully on the trunked system and disbanded the lowband in 02 or somewhere around there, its just in my thoughts sad that EMCOM moves so slow............. I know this is off the original topic so I do apologize

At this time LifeStar is not on CLMRN as it is a private service, rather than a municipal or state service. You'll get exceptions to this, such as Middlesex Medics and L&M Medics, but they are dispatched by 'municipal' dispatch centers, whereas LifeStar is dispatched from a private dispatch center.

VHF suits LifeStar operations well, with no need to move to CLMRN. This is separate from LifeStar communicating with ground units on scene calls, as those ground units do not speak with LifeStar on their VHF channel, all comms are done through the 'local' channels.

UMass LF is not patched. 155.160 D411 is still standalone simplex. UMass LF helicopters have CoMIRS radios and utilize the WEMS Wide channel for secondary ops, basically to notify that they are down and secure and/or out of range of the VHF. I do not believe LF operates any portables on either, just helicopter mounted radios.

Thanks, I've heard the Helo and Dispatch on both, so (as a hobbyist) made the assumption it is/was a patch
