Line out to USB

I have a tecsun PL-880. I would to make a line out, 3.8mm to usb cable. My cumputer does not have a 3.8mm mic in on it so I have to use the soundcard via usb. Am I correct in assuming the tip of the 3.8mm plug would go to data+ and the ground would go to data- of the usb? I would use it for decoding.

NO. You cannot directly connect an analog audio source to the digital signal lines on a USB port.

As you are waiting for you USB soundcard device, read through this - it's fairly lengthy. Pay attention to the Testing Your New Setup section, as that will give you several non-ham related targets that can be decoded with the right software
