Little bit of amateur enforcement from the FCC

The photo brought back old memories. In the early 1970's I sold a radio system to a very rural Wisconsin sheriff's department. Part of the commissioning and instructions on how to use the radio system, was the requirement to give your FCC call sign. All the deputies laughed a big "no way"! I advised them to not laugh because a strange black truck may roam even this remote part of the country!

A month later I was in the area and listening to them on my two way and one deputy religiously gave the system call sign at the end each transmission. I met up with him for coffee and he advised me he pulled over a black truck with lots of strange antennas and federal plates. Suddenly he became a believer. Wish some times that FCC would come back to the future!

Thanks for the neat photo.

Back on the day, I know a couple of Dispatchers were cited for not identifying the freq every 30 minutes. After they were cited and fine $500 they became very religious in identifying the freq even in the middle of pursuits and an officer needs help situation and never missed one time in identifying the freq until the day they retired.

Oh by the way, they used White Dodge Van's with no side windows and a loop antenna on top.

Wonder if they were using those cheap imported radios that are easily programmable.

The FCC is not concerned with the HF bands; all commercial users get as far away from hams as possible. No more interference by wannbes and pretenders.

Thats probably a good assumption of whats going on. Now that the FCC slapped CCRs to ham bands only after blasting over the public safety/business bands for so long, I can imagine there will be more complaints of unauthorized users on ham bands due to this

Yup back when you could could easily spot the FCC vans...
Not today, antennas are embedded in the fiberglass roof of the Suburbans.
I had the chance to see one up close and personal 4-5 years ago.
Had lunch with the operator of said Suburban.

Yet BDAs continue to hammer part 90 public safety radio systems nationwide and not a finger gets listed. FCC is a joke.
Might as well start saying "my buddy at AT&T is looking into the same thing, he came to me first without result and he's very angry" maybe will juice things along

Notice of Unlicensed Operation (NOUO) was issued with no response. Somehow this doesn't surprise me. Speaking as a veteran skydiver, most skydivers aren't too concerned with laws.

The ten day response period hasn't expired yet.
