Lindsay,

Just a quick question. Why is this being released and attributed to Radio Reference rather then pushing the new Broadcastify? I already have seen CNN using the audio with the Radio Reference name. Could have been the first big media event for the new format.

Anyways, Thank you for making these available publicly.

I was wondering the exact same thing when I saw it on CNN.

Edit: Also, Lindsay can you let everyone know some statistics from the feed? Things like how many people the feed had in the hours during and after the incident? I would imagine there was quite a few people listening for hours afterwards.

Gotta pimp out the RR name.

Couple of things, Fox news had some audio but I didn't see who was given the credit. Myself and another associate have been called and may possibly be traveling to CT to assist with the counseling of the survivors--I was at the Pearl(MS) school shooting and then when I went to work for a local ambulance provider I was on the CISM team, we get called all the time on different things. They are all in my prayers.

Be safe

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

If so, why would releasing public records 12 hours after a disaster come close to being the same as a reporter shoving a camera in someone's face?

Here's the problem: these aren't public records released through official channels. Those are usually edited and names, or other content that may reveal sensitive information removed.

IMO, the streaming and re-broadcasting (including recordings) of public safety radio without the agencies' permission is what is in poor taste, and will eventually lead to wider use of encryption.

Yes I would agree it should have been released under the "Broadcastify" name.

Maybe Lindsay will say why it wasn't released under that name for some unknown reason...

The one thing I was thinking is maybe CNN went on RR and got the archive and used it and just credited it to RR because thats where they got it. Like you can't log into broadcastify yet so they wouldn't have been able to get the audio archives from there quite yet, therefore they may have given credit to RR as that is exactly where they got it.

I could be completely wrong, but thats just what i'm thinking,

Which is just what Lindsay requested in Post #1 of this thread

I fully agree with those who feel this will further will be giving agencies more reasons to encrypt.

Wonder how the parents of the murdered children would & will feel about making these so readily available. I definitely am not going to listen to this as we know while this audio was recorded CHILDREN and the adults were DIEING! How will this site answer to those parents?

Now I fully 100% agree as said before the audio is essential for learning purposes for first responders.

I'm simply going to say this, and then delete my subscription to the thread. No further replies.

In the world of journalism there is sensationalism and programming to corrupt the objectivity that is supposed to exist. Even in photojournalism, there is no way for us to be completely objective because our emmotions, opinions, views and ideals will always affect how we snap that image. That said...

Because of this, it is good that Lindsay has chosen to leave the audio. There is no journalism as 100% objective as the audio in the archives. I also do not believe it immoral or wrong because there is absolutely nothing in the audio beyond the responders actions and reactions. There are no audible sounds of anyone being harmed, there are no names of victims being mentioned, there are not even gunshots actully heard...only discussed.

I think people need to put their emotions and disgust for this incident aside for a moment, all 100% justified and I share them, and look at the preservation of this audio objectively. It serves a purpose. Not only for training, but as an objective record of events, a tragic moment in history, and the heroics of those in uniform.

I support Lindsay in his decision.

On the news this morning, WG**, used some of the audio archives. They credited RadioReference, and actually mentioned that the archives are to be used in the coming investigation???

Also, is this site going black for 1 minute at 9:30AM today? It appears over 100,000 other sites and TV stations are doing that!

Where are you getting that information?

There was a tinfoil hat crowd member who made a post in another thread here that suggested there were multiple shooters and that the government was using Adam Lanza as their scapegoat to push a gun control agenda. Other than that, I've heard absolutely nothing about 3 shooters either.

I'm going to go ahead and close this one. Not sure there is much more to discuss reference the archives. Any further discussion on the incident can continue in The Tavern.
